Bikes with character...

Insurance on 2018 CB500X - $670/year.
Insurance on 2019 Scrambler Icon - $1050/year
Insurance on 2007 Monster 696 - $1060/year

Not as much of a jump as I expected, but an increase is expected.

For those unfamiliar with that model year GSX-R, the re-welded subframe is actually the only thing I have a real problem with. Yes, it needs some bodywork, but I'm pretty sure that's a 1990+ swingarm on it along with the 1990+ front end. It still has the stock tank, desirable 7/11 conversion, and a Vance & Hines 4:1 system (minus the midpipe). The paintwork looks like it was applied well. They're rarely in this good condition for anything not preserved by collectors. I kind of want to go see it and maybe even make a lowball offer on it. Other than fixing the subframe, it's only a midpipe, AirTech fairing kit and paint job away from looking like this:

Better do it before Ted retires.

The DESMO (?) service I keep reading about worries me.
Do your homework on the Hypermotard / Hyperstrada. Search YT for "Ducati Hypermotard problems". They have yet to sort this bike out since the Snowcat days. They gave him a new one and bought back the second and made him sign an NDA so he can't talk about them any further. $30,000 was spent on warranty between the two bikes he owned. The frying of ECU's and dashes has not been resolved to this day even tho they know what the problem is. Some guy in Vietnam figured out the coils were sending a spike voltage through the wiring harness frying the harness, the dash and the ECU. Out of warranty, you will be looking at $8000 - $10,000 to repair. The fuel tanks on the new 950's are delaminating and clogging the throttle bodies as well. This is a great looking bike, has all the wants and needs of many riders, but stay the F away from it it's out of warranty. Even in warranty you'll lose the use of it for our short season while they order parts. This is Ducati. They should have been forced to recall these bikes in 2013...ten years later nothing has changed.

I had a 2014 MG California ... lack of dealer support and an odd high idle on hot days made me trade it in.

This has some character.....

Instead of the Vulcan S, this Guzzi is pretty sweet:

Same bike. Now end this nonsense and just go buy it, dammit!

This one has been in this thread before. Why haven't you bought it yet?
It's a beaut but it's almost $10,000 for a 12yr old bike with not many dealers around and Guzzi's aren't quick to sell if he doesn't like it. I'm all for buying it because I think it's a beaut but there's some negative's to consider also imo.

Fair points. He Could use them when offering the seller 8. It's been up for a while, Maybe the seller is willing to entertain an offer.

If the Hypermotard is on your list include the Hyperstrada. All the fun with a bit more comfyness (and a saddlebag/topbox option).

There's so much to love about the Hyperstrada, starting with the option for a normal seat height compared to the regular models. Semi-rigid saddlebags are included, as well as rear shock hydraulic pre-load adjuster, center stand, plastic bash plate, wider/lower seat, 1" bar risers, windshield, passenger grab handles, and Powerlet 12v charging outlet. I had a 2015 821, so ask me anything about them whoever's interested. There are only 2 potential issues - the lower ride height limits ground clearance, so some have ground down or outright broke their shift/brake levers at extreme lean angles over bumps when cornering hard. Folding lever tips or aftermarket rearsets can help. Then there are reports of failing dashes and/or ECU, supposedly caused by noise from the OEM coils passing through the CANBUS. Ducati issued a recall and installed CANBUS filters, but if true, the real fix is to replace the coils with RSV4 coils. I didn't, and never had a problem adding 15,000 kms to the 15,000 I got it with, but a year after I sold it the seller told me he fried his ECU.

Never had a problem with mine. Sold it with 30,000 km's and suddenly the new owner fries his ECU a year later. Snowcat fries 2 brand new ECU's. Bike or owner?

Desmo isnt as big of a deal as it seems, ducati owners are chill and more than happy to answer any questions or help if you ever need it. (especially if you do the work yourself)

That’s definitely not as our to lunch as I expected.

Damnit…

If you're concerned about the cost of the Desmo service and don't want to do it yourself, get some quotes from the actual place you intend to get it done (I recommend Ken), but be sure they know exactly which model you have. The Desmo service on my 998 was only about 4 hours partly because I had him only do the valves and belts while I did everything else myself, and partly because the bodywork and tank come off in less than 5 minutes. On something like the Hypermotard, it takes a lot longer and you're paying the same hourly rate to remove and replace bodywork as you do for the complicated stuff, plus all that stuff has to come off to change the air filter and plugs so you end up getting them to do everything.
