Bike Stolen

Sigh....I guess I never thought it would happen to me, but today at approx 1:30 while I was at work, my bike & my friends were stolen. I kinda feel violated.

Thankfully I have theft insurance. But do I get the value of the bike back? The adjuster hasn't called me yet, so I have no idea, what's going to happen there, will they add in the value of the aftermarket extra's. Is it the value of the bike, or book value?

So I guess there is no sense crying about it.

oh well....now I need to figure out what the new one will be

I think I'm going to move up to a 1000, and yes an SS.

Suggestions?

Start gathering ads from Kijiji, Craigslist and Trader.ca for similar bikes with similar mileage and aftermarket parts (with the highest asking prices).
There is no blue book value for bikes in Canada.
See what the insurance company is offering, if it is not satisfactory use the ads to show what the going price is for similar bikes to negotiate a better settlement.

Which Insurance company are you dealing with?

Ugh that sucks! I'm so paranoid now, I always check on my bike when I'm at work/school.

1:30 damn, they took it in broad daylight? Must have been an underground parking.

Good luck!

Wow that really sucks. Sorry to hear that and about your friend too. Your claim value will be based on actual cash value (ACV) and I'm not quite sure about aftermarket equipment. Could really depend on whether you declared it at the time of setting your policy and the individual insurer and adjuster. If they do decide to cover it, there's usually a $ cap before they decide to charge additional premium if the value of your extras goes over. Any aftermarket equipment that is paid out is also ACV.

How were the bikes parked at work? In a garage with private access or just an open parking lot?

bikes were parked underground in the parking garage. Both bikes were covered. Both had alarms, and both were stolen. I have the surveillance video. 2 guys in a dark caravan. My insurance company is Primmum

If I read anyone write about I should have known better than to park it in underground parking I will scream. I live in a condo not a house. I do not want to live in a house. I like living where I'm living. And no I can't park it in anyones garage as all my friends live in a condo.

That sucks, the video won't help.

My friends absolutely mint 1000 is for sale: http://london.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...-bikes-2008-Kawasaki-Ninja-W0QQAdIdZ421844197

Get all of your receipts for your accessories. Even if you think they won't cover it (covered my braided brake lines = performance update, etc. etc.).

And as was said, print out equivalent bikes to yours. Similar KM's, same model.

Good luck and they'll be back in a month or two for your new bike so don't be disappointed when it's gone too.

Thanks, I wouldn't be getting until the new year anyway.

Do NOT accept their first offer. They will negotiate with you...the first amount offered for mine made me actually laugh out loud! I ended up coming out pretty good by the end of the negotiation.

Well in the 7 years I've been here, this is the first motorcycle theft as the security we had was very good.

I love how the holier than thou will pipe in all passive aggressive like and say ***** like "who would have thought", like as if to say condo dwellers have no right to own a motorcycle let alone an SS.

Anyway, I knew the risk was there which is why I had theft insurance.

notice smiley face...you said if anyone posts anything about it being in a condo you'll scream. i took the opportunity :D

and you kinda knew better no?

btw don't spend too much on a new one, chance are its gonna be gone in no time, thieves keep coming back to the same places since they know ppl will just buy a new bike and park it in the exact same spot

Oh no I won't and it certainly will NOT be in the same spot

sorry for your loss. i know how it feels.
post up pic's of the bike, and if you can, the video. you never know who might recognize either.

I strongly recommend you chain you next bike to a ground anchor or around a concrete pillar. use an almax chain. nothing else comes close.

I didn't know anyone had the right to own a motorcycle.

Well. I hope you get your friends back at least

As far as I am aware they do not pay for aftermarket accessories unless you've told them about the accessories and gotten extra coverage for them. Also, depending on the "accessories" and whether you have informed them about them or not, they may consider it a modification that they do not allow and can deny the entire claim (although that seems unlikely in a theft scenario, more likely in an accident). Exhausts, Power Commanders (or equivalent), suspension changes (ie lowering kits) could fall into this category.

Sorry to hear about your loss Femme. That sucks big time. I always worry about my Duc even though it is always parked in my private garage or in visible sight when I am out. All the precautions you took to safe guard your bike didn't work, what a shame. If the thieves want it I guess it doesn't matter what protection you have.
Hopefully Insurance doesn't screw you and you get what you want
