Bike stolen!! Mv f4

I just bought a Scorpio SR-i800 alarm system with perimeter sensor, and had been wondering how effective it actually would be in deterring someone from stealing my bike. Anybody know of articles about this?

Even though I ride a lil' cheap Honda, nonetheless I think something is better than noting, and I'd rather have spent $200 for something worthwhile when I could easily blow that much on cosmetic upgrades.

there was an AMA on Reddit not too long ago about a bike thief and how they went about stealing bikes with alarms.
One of the scenarios was to take their dog for a walk, then trip your alarm and time how long before someone showed up. You come out, he says "sorry mate, my dog got close to your bike" you think nothing of it. Soon, your bike is gone.
similarly, access to your battery is an allen key away. pop the seat, disconnect battery, what alarm?

I have the same alarm. I never ever use the perimiter alarm in fear of pissing people off.

Not sure what you mean about popping the seat with an allen key?

And yes, you've a point about ppl tripping alarms to test response times; the alarm is certainly not a fail-proof means of deterring thieves.

Sorry for loss, I know how u feel my car was stolen from underground parking. It sucks Good luck

Not all bike seats open with a key

The bike is extremely sexy. Very nice color scheme.

I'm sorry for your loss OP ! I do hope something pops up in your favor. i'm sure a lot of members will keep theyre eyes open for it ! I will for sure !

Right. I suppose a motorcycle seat could be rather easily unlocked with moderate lock-picking skills. And there goes the battery + alarm.

I think you're missing the point. Many bikes do not need a key to open or remove the seat. All you need is a wrench (i.e. allen key).

But, from what I understand about professional bike thieves, they don't care if your bike is screaming at them or not. They just take it and put it in their van and drive away. They don't waste time removing the seat to disconnect the alarm.

I think I AM missing the point! I'm not sure how I can pop my seat off non-forcefully without my keys.

And at the end of the day no single device is fail-proof; Alarms are just a layer of security.

Every motorcycle is built differently. Just because you need a key to pop open the seat on your motorcycle does not mean that every bike needs the keys to pop the seat off.

Here's how you remove the seat on an S1000RR. Just two screws:

Many (most?) bikes require a key to open or remove the seat. Many don't. Many just need you to use a wrench. If your's requires a key and that's the only style you're familiar with, it is hard to comprehend how you can remove a seat without a key. Check out some other bike seats when you get a chance.

I agree with your comment about the alarm being a layer of security. I think they are a very good idea.I just worry that some folks think they are safe if they have one. I think they will dissuade the morons that want to sit on your bike and may dissuade the opportunist that sees your bike and thinks they can grab it with no fuss. It won't dissuade a person that knows what they're doing and wants your bike.

Sshhhh!! That was supposed to be a secret!

Although, now that I think about it, the green ones, like mine, need a key. ;)

Mine needs a key, but the lock assembly is a $100.00 item and if your taking a $12k bike thats not a big deal. Grab the seat and pull, its a deterent but its not that sturdy.
