August 23rd... Riders choice at Mosport...

I learned that going straight from the apex of 4 to the apex of 5 its the best line, basically cutting across the track from rumble strip to rumble strip. But I am sure faster riders may have a different line

I'm pretty sure I only got through T5 correctly a handful of times. That corner is confusing. Especially because of the concrete section in it.

If they resurfaced the whole track it would be wicked.

++++++++

I didn't mind that they were running it in 4 sessions at 15 mins. Every time I saw the checkered flag I was torn between being, "Damn it!" and "Thank Gawd, I'm getting tired." ;)

I got there around 12:30 and the Yellow group had only done one session. At that time I heard there were about 4 crashes. My first session I saw 2 crashes being in the Yellow group. My second session there was a terrible crash where someone was laying flat on the track and had to be carried onto a stretcher into the ambulance. After that and seeing all the oil spills on the track I decided to pack it up and call it a day.

Does anyone know what happened to the guy who crashed in the Yellow Group on the 09+ Red R1 I believe it was in Turn 3. He was the guy laying flat on the track who had to be taken in the ambulance?

I agree...the track has some patches of concrete around a few turns some ofwhich also has the oil patches from the crashes that took place. If they resurfaced the track it would be amazing and I would definietly consider going again but from my experience there I would much rather go to Shannonville.

I was stopped at the marshal tower at the crest of 2 , when they let us go they told us to pit in when I got to moss I saw the paramedics trying to put what looked like a neck and back brace on the guy, it did not look good ,saw no movement from rider.
yellow group was all over the place , they let the guys who run the 250cc class into yellow, it is amazing how fast you come up to those things on a liter bike, poor judgement on behalf of the organizers , that may work at a track like Cayuga but Mosport was asking for problems. The organizers obviously were just trying to get as many on the track as possible , if I had known in advance would not have bothered, also noticed in yellow in a session that a csbk guy came out during the session. poor judgement overall based on greed

I didnt want to go there thats why I did not mention it but it was a very poorly run event. There were Pros/Experts going into all groups even the Green. A lot of people in the Yellow Group should not have been there and Riders Choice should have had better control over the event. I think the first crash causing them to lose 1hr probably threw them off and they just wanted to get everyone to get in as many sessions as they could but it caused a lot of crashes.

I would have not gone had I known it was going to be like this. I did 2 sessions and packed it up.

As for that rider I was on the track watching them attend to him and I did not see any movement. I hope he is alright and anyone with any info on him keep us posted.

First off did you mention any of this to the organizers?

It's a reality, mosport has less than a dozen track days for bikes, your going to find a wide variance in speed in most groups just simply because of the amount of bikes out there.

I suddenly feel much better about my riding! I passed most people in novice except for a few riders.

The rider on the blue/white Gixxer was actually taking footage of the 250 riders for two commercials. One for Honda, one for Rider's Choice. After lunch they were bumped down to novice.

organizers seemed unwilling to hear any opinions

Surprising as the previous Riders choice track days I have attended were very well run.

Im thinking it could be because of that first spill which costed them 1hour in cleaning it up.

its the only trackday right before the races....evryone and their uncle traveling with the pro's wants to give Mosport a try....

I dont think everyone is totally honest when they sign up as to there abilities......thats what starts problems.....

add heat, wrong tires, bad lines, wrong PSI, dehydration, condition of bikes..etc...etc

Thinking optimistically, paramedics typically tell the rider not to move, and will put on a neck brace and other restraints as a precautionary measure until docs do diagnostic tests to assess any injuries. So fingers crossed that he/she is o.k.

On the riders facebook page:

Update: as you have heard Glenn Cauley crashed during the race at Mosport yesterday . Was taken to bowmanville hospital and diagnosed with broken upper shoulder and C6 & c7 bones on his neck . He was then airlifted to Sunny brook in Toronto and was told he also had collapsed long and injured middle back vertebrae . He has tubes in to get the long back toward ribs and listed for surgery for sometime today. He's responding to everything and has sensation. As he says on the good side he was doing 1:33 and was ahead of Reiner.. Lol
I hope a quick recovery for the rider. Sunnybrook has a pro team.

The rider you referenced was actually one of the rider's racing on saturday... and not the rider referred to earlier in this thread. I *think* Glenn went down on turn 4 which I couldn't see but I heard he was taken to hospital. If I am mistaken and he was actually the rider who ran off on turn 2 in the last race on saturday... that was a nasty crash and I'm not surprised by his injuries.

An update from facebook:

Update : Glenn has been moved to ICU. No surgeries yet they are hoping he will have his lower back vertebrae surgery tomorrow. His neck situation is still being discussed so not sure what will happen ( halo or surgery) . His collapsed lung still being pumped by a tube that was inserted last night. His left shoulder is broken really badly into pieces and still don't know when the surgery will happen for that ..... On a good note , he was allowed to eat food, he was very happy about it . He's talking, joking and laughing . Thank you all for all your support and great wishes ♥

^ Those photos don't match either of the crashes under discussion here. Those photos are from Cayuga (TMP).

Hmmmm, very strange! I'll have to look through the rest of the photo album (3,000 pictures! yikes!), I guess those are not Glenn's crash pics :(
