August 23rd... Riders choice at Mosport...

That said, I think it's kind of ironic, Meme, that you commented that someone doesn't know what they're talking about in regards to another subject in this thread, yet you're sitting here making completely incorrect assumptions about the motivations of others. Please practice what you preach.

I hope this clears some things up.

I know I just made a few more assumptions about you.....You owe a lot of people an apology in this thread if you ever want help. But you really don't cause you know it all already it seems. That's good because you'll never get it from me and mine.

I've been on track with most of the faster riders in this thread. I work hard on track to be disciplined and most of them could tell you while I'm a mid pack rider I am ridiculously consistent. Even when I was a beginner.....

You've really ****** me off. Shut your mouth and open your ears next time someone tries to help. Even if you think you are right, try being gracious.

Are you guys confusing what Tony did with being me? Where he stayed with the 250s, then nailed the throttle when I passed him? If that's what you're referring to, then yes, I can see the point where his action is being unpredictable.

Tony? whoever was the guy on the left is plodding along, there is also another bike on the right hand side of the track doing the same. Some chick? wearing pink is in the middle(doing nothing wrong-on a slower bike). You go pass, and the two floaters decide to gun it. You are now three wide at the fastest section of track in Canada/possible North America.

Now after accelerating to catch you up just after the canadian tire bridge over the crest they come upon you and one of your other posse's who have decided to park it, waiting for them to catch up.

The danger of all this as Brian P has pointed out you now have five bikes, of which three of them are doing unpredictable things.

To give you some sort of idea why this is unsafe, ZX600 was put into Green group on the day before by the organizers rightly so because it was his first time at Mosport. Probably before lunch time after learning the track Paulo would have been running a fairly decent intermediate/yellow time.

Paulo would have approached this gong show flat out in sixth gear any where from 250-270kph.

The innocent rider in the middle(or even paulo) would have been hurt really bad by this scenario.

I ran yellow last weds with a friend(although he was running times that were good enough for red) , i could have ridden my ride only that day and stuffed a lot of slower riders. But instead I chose to respect the rules of the TD organizer given that day, and also to respect my other fellow riders.

Bottom line it's a track day, we are all there to have fun.

I'm sad,,

No one ever comes and complements me on my riding at trackdays!:(

Stormcat,,, If you sat down and and read what was being said to you rather than shooting back with your keyboard or your mouth when important information is offered you'd have avoided all the pissing in this thread and there is a good chance you and others could have learned a number of things,, but you rarely, if ever seem to do this.

You've done this consistently during formal instruction, as well as here!

This is why our conversation about trackside instruction was discontinued!

I've only got a little bit of knowledge and I'm only willing to share it with those who want to learn, not those who want to tell everyone how much they already know or what to be told how great their riding is.

EVERYONE riding at trackdays sucks,, that's why we go to them,,, to get better.

When you no longer suck,, you go racing.

With all the talk of speed differentials, I'm curious what is considered as decent times for the various groups at Mosport and Calabogie. I know this is somewhat subjective and can depend on the people out on any given day, but I don't really recall a discussion of what are considered high, med or low times in a given group.

My buddy ran a 1:34 in yellow, but the beacon wasn't picking up all of his laps. So he could have been running quicker.

I ended the day running around 1.40 consistently and didn't feel threatened or out of place. I overtook and I got overtook.

WHat was up with the freaking beacons that day, mine was ****ed too - Mine only picked up a few laps, most of them were in the 1:41 with traffic in teh green group, picked up one lap in the first session in the afternoon at 1:37 something Edit: I was first off the line so I had no traffic for a few laps until catching up to the back of the group, the most fun I have had on a track

and I don't know what that means at Mosport :) as Jay said that was my first track day at that venue

I was thinking something along the lines of:

Mosport
Green 2+ to 1:50
Yellow 1:50 - 1:30
Red - 1:30

Calabogie:
Green 3 + to 2:40
Yellow 2:40 to 2:20
Red - 2:20

Or something like that, but not too sure how close those are. I figure 1:40 at Mosport is quick yellow and 2:25 at Calabogie would be quick yellow.

Those times look ok.

Trouble is how many riders own a lap timer? I don't, never felt the need for one at a track day to be honest.

Only lap times i care about are the ones on a race weekend, SOAR provides all the lap times for free without the need of a transponder.

Yeah, ****in' beacon was pissing me off too. I was only getting a few random pickups. I thought it was me so I kept moving my receiver around thinking it wasn't getting a good line of sight. Oh well... Still had a blast for the day I was there.

On the riders facebook page:

I hope a quick recovery for the rider. Sunnybrook has a pro team.

Yup, was not me in those pics of the blue bike n rider. My bike n leathers are red/white/black, and I'm number 985. I crashed in AM SportBike main on Saturday, Aug 25th. I was going well thru the pack with 1.5 laps remaining. I had a good line going into 4 but a rider cut me off so I had to brake to avoid taking us both out. In doing so I lost the front end in a high-speed low-side at 180-200kph we figure. I hit the hay bales at speed, that's what destroyed my shoulder 'n neck/spine. Lucky to be alive. I don't remember the crash, this was told to me long after the fact. Yeh I do know who was responsible but (right now) I don't harbour any ill will. We all know the risks going into this sport. I still have a long n painful road ahead to recovery... my arm is really messed up.

Stacey Nesbitt recently told me there ARE pics of my crash, where my number 985 is visible on the tail section. Apparently I made hay bales explode! :) I'd like to see those pics... someday.

Glenn

Glad to hear that you are on the mend. I too saw those pictures somewhere online. I will send you a PM if I find them.

Stormcat

Take the advice given in various forms in this thread (some offered honestly)(some offered with ego).

I just found this thread today when Glenn posted to it and had not seen it prior. That was my kid out there on the 250s in your video. After he complained to me about the other riders, I ran that session with him to see what he was complaining about. Needless to say, he changed sessions.

Ride without your friends. Practice. Smooth. Consistent. Predictable. Speed and the fun follows from these.
