Get a bottle of Canada's finest in that list.Glen Breton Rare...I am Canadian!

Even though they were granted 'Scotch' statis, if it wasn't made in Scotland, it's just not Scotch. Or to steal a line, "If it's Nae Scottish, it's crap.."

Though it is a fine Whiskey... :p

This is my drink of choice Regal premium o so smooth!!.....:D

Smooth as poop after a night of all you can eat chicken curry... :p

I found another brand of scotch I really like while out in BC. Old Punteney 17 year old is a mighty fine product.

I love the peaty, smoky ones. I'm currently enjoying an Ardbeg 10 year old I picked up in the US (not currently in the LCBO, alas) and also enjoy Bowmore's 15 year old Mariner.

What I have really enjoyed is the "Whiskey Challenge" nights held at a pub called "The Feathers" in Scarborough. You pay a fee, sit down at a table with others, and try 8 scotches out of a list of 10. You then try to match the scotch with the tasting notes, getting 1 point if you get the region right, and 3 points if you get the scotch. Highest score at the end of the night wins a prize, usually a bottle.

The people are great, it's a lot of fun, and you get to try lots of different and rare scotches, including cask strength (one night I got to sample a year old Macallan). The price varies depending on what scotches are in the challenge.

This month's challenge is "10 of the Best":

  • Bladnoch 1977 C.S.
  • Glen Scotia 1969 C.S.
  • Blair Athol 27 yr. C.S.
  • Glen Grant 1972 C.S.
  • Linkwood 26 yr. C.S.
  • Brora 25 yr.
  • Dallas Dhu 1979 C.S.
  • Highland Park 30 yr.
  • Ardbeg 1967 C.S.
  • Bowmore 25 yr.

They also have 450 different single malts in stock.

I first went because my wife took me as a birthday gift, and we've gone a couple of times since, but not recently, alas. (Reservations are recommended).

And no, I'm not affiliated with The Feathers in any way; just a very satisfied customer.

All the whiskeys are good and i'll take a dram of whatever your pouring :)

I like the idea of a Cdn "scotch".... but its not scotch, and it costs to much.

you can put ice, soda or asian breast milk in yours, leave mine neat and we' can sit and drink all evening.

You are right.. Adding anything to scotch is blasphemous... Neat is where it's at...

Bought a bottle of The Macallan Cask Strength last weekend.Holy Jeezuz Mary n Joseph! This stuff is unreal. The flavour is awesome and almost too much.I know i said that "neat" is the only way to go,but just tiny splash of h2o is needed to tame this beast.

Haha saw this and had flashbacks to RFS.

AMINAL...... WHERES DA SCOTCH?!?!

A couple of drops of room temperature water releases the esters from the scotch, and is a preferred method of drinking to get the most flavour. And yes, the shape of the glass does matter.
