Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

So there's no more new Bolts from what I'm seeing. Was looking at those, and now they're all gone and replaced by the new EV (Equinox?).

Too bad. The Bolt had a good space v price.

But yet again...paralysis by analysis by MP. I only want new so I can lease the damn thing as I'm not sure if I want an EV long term considering the market shift recently.

Back to EVs. I spotted a blue Silverado EV in the RST trim level at the GM dealer in Orangeville, parked amongst the regular T1XX trucks. The nose is notably lower and the hood slopes down more towards the front. And that is a GOOD thing.

This is the first Silverado EV that I've seen in anything other than black or white, which were all that was available at launch.

Torque is what matters in this context... HP calculated from torque--the formula is HP = (Torque X RPM)/5252. HP might sell cars/trucks but....

That Cummins (without looking at the specs) likely makes ~2,000 lb.ft of torque and that much way down low and those HP numbers could be at 1600 rpm. For the pickup they get the HP numbers at a much higher RPM and it is putting out no where near the same amount of torque anywhere in the power band. Without that torque the pick-up has nowhere near the pulling power.

For every torque (lb.ft)/HP curve
RPM > 5252 RPM, HP > Torque
RPM < 5252 RPM, HP < Torque
RPM = 5252 RPM, HP = Torque

That thing will literally open up the GTI like a can opener. At least with a bigger car those high bumpers are closer to my mid-section instead of my head.

If they hit you in the side, regardless of the vehicle, you are in very bad shape. Airbags help but there just isn't much room to accelerate your head. VW normally holds up quite well in crashes. If you want to feel vulnerable, try the mini. No airbags, no structure, no weight, no crumple zones, 6" lower than gti, etc.

Size doesn't automatically equal safety.

Look at the SmartCar for example. 2 seater go cart. But despite everyone thinking it was a deathtrap in a crash, it actually had amazingly high crash test ratings.

It's this "I need a land yacht to be safe" thing that has led to every soccer mom driving a giant pickup truck around when in reality a 4 door sedan would actually be far more suitable for their needs.

Almost $140K is the cheapest option in Canada IIRC. Before taxes and all the other stuff.

Imagine paying almost $160,000 to drive one of these things around and get laughed at.

And? Wealthy people are often a**holes. He's the epitome of that.

I'd rather hang with someone worth $50 to their name and who is a good person than someone worth however many billions of dollars who would stab you in the back 30 seconds after you walked away if it meant they could make themselves another $100, or inflate their ego a little more at your expense.

Money can't make you a good person. You have to choose to do that bit. We've seen what Musk has chosen to become.
