Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Majority lease these things rather than buying outright. in that case, I wouldn't worry so much about long term ownership.

I'd take the Tesla hands down no contest.

Definitely has more wow factor and street cred than anything else on the market. The Taycan looks like every other garden variety porsche

After 3 years, just hand it back and get the next latest and greatest. And few can deny that the Tesla just keeps getting better and faster.
It's easy to get better when the bar is parts flying off just after PDI.

Pretty sure there's far more teardrop style trailers on the market that would beat the pants off that thing in the aerodynamics department, so aside from the fact it's gone some EV-type farkles on it I'm not seeing anything that screams "Made specifically for EV's" to me honestly.

If the model 3 had a Honda badge on it, 90% of its buyers would have scoffed at it.
Tesla is a prime example of hype and fanboism. If money wasnt an issue I cant believe anyone would choose one over a Taycan Turbo S.
One has a pretty exterior, elegant interior, A+ build quality and a badge with a rich heritage, the other is a Tesla.

No Tesla model has the "wow factor and street cred" of the Turbo S.

It has a big expensive, heavy battery in it. Seems more like a toy for people that want to greenwash by not running a generator while camping. Silent A/C is nice though.

If you can't charge off it, or it doesn't charge while driving then it's not made for an EV. It's for the EV crowd because it has a batter for operation?

Marketing BS is all that article is. Sure you'll get a few more km than a standard trailer, but I doubt it's worth the price.

You get more km per charge because the bastard thing is waist tall. It looks to be a foot or two shorter than the one PP is investigating. Less frontal area is directly related to less energy required.

So basically my WRX will also see the same benefit? My point stands. It's aerodynamics, nothing more. But it's probably offset by the large battery in the trailer, so weight v aero.

I'd be very surprised if you put that in a wind tunnel against a traditional teardrop trailer without all the funky "Trying to be a Tesla pickup truck" angles and other seemingly unnecessary nonsense...the teardrop would win by a longshot. The only thing it seems to have any edge up on is the enclosed bottom to smooth air there, but all those angles and such seem like they'd not help on the top side.

What looks more aero to you?

Yup. If I really thought I was going to trailer often with an EV, I would be looking for a popup. Nice and low and aero when cruising, enough room to sit up when stopped. I am not sure if that trailer already exists or if I would have to make my own.

And a 1/3 of the price of the one @PrivatePilot showed us.

Yup, all of those cyber truck angles are too sharp and flow will separate. Drag is frontal area x cd. I think it has a lower frontal area so it could have lower overall drag. Small changes can make a big difference. Shaving the ridges holding the panels together at the A and C pillars on a mini is good for ~8mph at top speed. Looks stupid though. Pic is not shaved, it is just showing the ridges (and wheels that are far too big).

On that front, I need to update my tiny trailer thread. There's movement there.

To be fair, charging a big battery on the grid at home and then not running a generator at point B because of it IS much better emissions wise, especially if it does actually go for the 6 days as claimed...which I'd find doubtful unless you're not using the AC more than few hours a day tops.

But Tesla owners don't strike me as the sort of campers who will head off boondocking in the woods anywhere where they'd use those sorts of capabilities.

Sorry. I laughed a bit at this post.

The use will be better emissions wise. The giant lithium battery that was constructed to be charged twice a year and then discarded is not good.

camping isn't required when you can go anywhere in 2 seconds flat. haven't you been subscribing to Sunnys posts? sheesh.

Indeed, very fair argument. Like most RV's these things will sit collecting dust in peoples garages and backyards 350 days a year.

Yeah, no.

Laugh all you want.
Show up to any gathering of auto enthusiasts with a Taycan Turbo S, Model S p100d, Aventador, R8, 812. Which car do you think is going to get significantly less attention than the others?

The fact is Teslas underperform vs their marketing while The Taycan overperforms. The Taycan gets better than estimated range and can repeatability pull off full power runs. Its a much nicer looking car both inside and outside, superior build quality and it has a P-badge on it.

I wish I could find analysis from people who have owned both to see what they say...
