Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Yes, the monitor calculates on raw data and raw kWh’s based on the raw rate. That’s how they work.

But you need to go re read my original post. I basically doubled the calculated rate for my dollars and cents calculations which is generous since a lot of the fees we pay to just have service at our houses and delivery are not absolutely proportional.

If you don’t want to believe me for whatever reason as someone who has 4 EV’s to his name now, seriously, just google it and read some Canada / Ontario centric factual articles. I’m not the only one who understands and has run the numbers.

Here’s a few to start.

Here’s a Canadian Ioniq5 specific one comparing 1:1 to a new RAV4.

Comparing models 1:1 in the used market now yield even more favorable numbers.

Now, if one still insists on comparing a $40K used EV to a boring econobox I’m sure one can still find fault. But we don’t Compare BMW’s to a Fiat and expect fair comparisons either.
All those editorial comparisons need a lot to go right, a lot of iffs that need to fall the EV direction to make their conclusion.

For example, the Corporate Knights were $3k low on price, 60% off in electricity prices, somehow found .5% financing, and assumed those spending $65k on a primary new car will keep it 50% longer than most. All charging at home low cost TOU. Hmmm. A lot of bases to touch.

Hey, I get the economy’s and I know for some there is a cost savings. I’ve done the what if’s 11 ways from Sunday looking for some personal savings. For me and my 25000km/year travels — it doesn’t work yet. For me I’d need a $20000 used model 3 (or equivalent ) that could go 150,000km and have a residual value of $5000.
Look at that…Chevy has enough margin to cover the 5k federal rebate…

I’d lease one of those…but not for 50-60k…

I'm good with not owning a Muskmobile.

Same. I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Tesla anymore with what their CEO has become.

The next 6-12 months worth of sales numbers are going to be a mess I predict. It's already started because of Musks turn to full potato is alienating his very target audience of buyers in both the USA and abroad, but Trump cancelling all EV incentives and programs and being openly anti-green/anti-EV sure seems unlikely to help the EV market in the USA at all either.

I was going to buy a Tesla but now not a chance.

5 years ago me would have been in the market for a used Model S or Model 3 right around now when prices have moderated and the used market is much more broad with lots of good options.
But now, yeah, no. Hard no.

Even A lot Tesla owners themselves are embarrassed now.

In all seriousness, I don't buy the whole nazi salute thing. I think if you watch it in context that's clearly not how it was meant.

I mean, I'm certainly no Elon fan and all that, but I think this whole thing is just trying to make something out of an awkward "my heart goes out to you" gesture freeze framed at an opportune second.

All that said, he was clearly high as a kite on something during the whole event. This one is a gem....

(Sorry for Tiktok source, couldn't find a better one elsewhere...)

Anyhow, back on topic vs politics..... We have narrowed down a specific Ioniq5 RWD Long Range we are going to look at on the weekend.

Thats for sure!

thank the darling media (social and news). for blowing things out of proportion.

I don't own an E car (yet), but I'd still only own a Tesla (sans FSD) at this point. with Polestar (the Chinese know what they are doing) a close second.

I could care less if a goat ran Tesla, I just want the most compelling products.

If I were buying today, this would be it.......

What kind of a numpty buys a car based on what random strangers on the road will think of him? You buy whatever meets your needs the best.

My Tesla (bought new in summer 2023) now has just over 45,000 kms on it and it hasn't given me any problems yet, and saved me a few thousand in gas and lack of engine maintenance. Not that I'd expect anything less from a car this new. But I got no loyalty for Tesla (or any brand), if some other manufacturer comes out with a car that I think would suit me better, I'll buy that. Right now, Tesla is still king due to their supercharger network. I was roadtripping recently and noticed the CCS stations tend to be full more often than the superchargers. Imagine having to sit in a line for 2 hours before you can even plug in to charge, it would take forever to get anywhere. This will change in the future as the supercharger network opens up to other makes, but even then only newer supercharging stations will support this. I'm not saying not to buy a CCS car, just be aware of what kind of experience you will have if you roadtrip, especially during busy weekends. If you're not planning on using it as a road trip car then I guess it doesn't matter.

If I could afford a Tesla, I’d have it in my driveway today.

Unfortunately it’s beyond my budget.

Used ones worry me simply due to Tesla being the only ones providing parts and service.

So I’m stuck with a non-Tesla option.

Wife just texted me she likes the Bolt. Was hoping she’d text ‘you know what…love the Maverick’

I think used ones are actually a good deal right now. I'm seeing 5 year old Model 3's going for low 20's. There is no engine so that eliminates most things that go wrong with a used car. Where did you hear that only tesla provides parts/service? Most of the non EV specific parts of the car can be serviced by any mechanic, and there's lots of aftermarket parts.

Hmm...good to know. My understanding was that Tesla is the sole source for parts / service.

I know when I called my insurer then there was an increase of $100/month bump in insurance payments as well over and above my GTI.

I guess it depends on what you need. I just checked rockauto.com for some random stuff like calipers and struts and and see many different aftermarket manufacturers offering parts. But there are probably certain parts that only Tesla can provide. Although I think that's true for most makes.

True for most companies but Tesla is intentionally screwing the consumers with some items like their central display which is necessary for the car to be used, designed to die early and they actively attack anyone that tries to supply the market. If the radio dies in a stellantis product, I can keep driving it and it may be annoying but the vehicle works. Tesla tries to be apple, argues security/safety and actively opposes right to repair. Things like killing supercharger access if you replace battery. That makes repairs effectively a monopoly.
