Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Might be worth importing from USA Canadian used prices are nuts.

No deals to be had that way at all that I see. Comparing (for example) 2022 Bolt Premier models with adaptive cruise control (a MUST have now after having come to love it on our 2017 Volt), I see options in Quebec (and a few here in Ontario) for around $27K Canadian, but the closest comparison I can find in the nearby USA (mostly with more mileage) are at least $21K USD, so over $30K CDN after the exchange right now. Plus then there's all the import hassle to deal with, RIV inspection, recall letters need to be sourced, etc etc etc.

If we were talking $6-$10K saving, I'd consider it, but when we're talking more expensive, or basically at par at best, it doesn't make sense.

Same. I see Bolts a bit more reasonable than new…but overall the used EV market isn’t even worth buying when you can buy/lease new for slightly over used pricing. Only issue no more new Bolts…and the replacement from Chevy is a 50k car.

In other news…

It's coming back in the EUV flavour but with the new battery tech.

Edit: I don't know why that link comes up as "site maintenance", but it goes to the Chevy page regarding the Bolt returning.

Another video angle. Appears to be an explosive in the cargo area, speculation that it involved fireworks. BNO News (@bnonews) on Threads
It is now coming out that the cybertruck locked itself after the explosion. What prompted it to do that, I don't know, but this makes ZERO sense on a vehicle that has no exterior door handles and relies on an electrically powered latch-popper (and presumably some computer wizardry) to open the doors from outside. This is not outside-rescuer friendly.

You want doors to UNlock, but not open, if there is an "event", so that the door remains latched closed (to remain protective in a multi-event collision), but can be opened by anyone from outside, without chasing after keys or key fobs or relying on maintained power.

I don't think Tesla's no-exterior-handle strategy is compatible with that safety strategy.

FMEA is a thing to pay attention to.

As expected, it looks like Canoo is finished. Hundreds of millions in government funding gone. All employees on forced unpaid leave. Manufacturing facility closed. Another SPAC loser. IPO at $4700/share in Jan 2020, peak of $9300 in Dec 2020 and currently at $1.28 and falling fast.

Many of the Canoo founders were previously at Coda (it bailed), Faraday Future (it also bailed) and in early 2021 spun up Harbinger to make medium duty commercial EV's.

We now know it's robust design actually prevented more damage and injuries by "containing" the blast.

The Tesla fanatics have been screeching this everywhere online. The Tesla FB page is a hilarious endless stream of comments telling everyone who this truck is the greatest thing since sliced bread and even going so far as suggesting that if it had of been a regular truck it would have been like the Oklahoma City bombing and Trump tower might have come completely down.

A good majority of these people are detached from any shred of reality.

Funny how some were quick to blame the CT itself for exploding before acquiring facts.

We now know it's robust design actually prevented more damage and injuries by "containing" the blast.

The bomber's use of fireworks designed to make a cute bang and a pretty display, plus a few containers of liquid fuel which make a "woof" and a fireball unless first mixed with air, are what stopped this from being a blast that did significant damage. If he had used a real explosive, that truck would have been shrapnel, and the building wouldn't have any windows left on that side.

Heck, the bomber could have done a lot more damage with what he had, just by doing one thing a little differently.

Opening the door and running away? I’m no expert but he may not have been expecting the doors to lock after the boom.

Unless it was a suicide mission.

But as you said, let’s wait for the facts.

It's being stated now that the bomber may have shot himself in the head before the explosion, but I have questions. Was the trigger on a timer, or on a fuse that took a finite amount of time? Nothing else about this incident suggests that level of planning.

I'd say the blast was pretty significant.

Again, due to the robustness of the CT, the blast was directed up, not sideways

"Guests who were staying at Trump International Hotel at the time of the explosion said the windows shook, even more than 40 floors up. The guests, who did not want to be publicly identified, said they saw smoke billowing in the stairwells and coming out of the elevator doors."
