Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Musk opening his mouth without thinking and with no understanding of what he is talking about? Huh. First time for everything I guess. /s

Let's not veer this into the political...for @PrivatePilot sanity....although he may have opened that door himself here.

It's unfortunate (sad, honestly) that something as utterly silly as electric cars have become politically charged to the point where it's increasingly impossible to even talk about them anymore without the politics almost having to be part of it, like it, or not.

FWIW, this only seems to be a North America thing, the rest of the world is more sane then we are on the topic apparently.

But anyways, lets move on.... but my comments are far less tongue in cheek then I wish they were. This timeline sucks.

In Toronto, I own a 48v 1000w ebike and it typically gets me around quicker than even a motorbike in the city could as filtering isn't allowed, so the bike lanes are king. But once you leave the downtown core, an ebike's performance can vary wildly, especially in colder weather due to the large distance drop. I was considering getting a surron but for the price it would cost for one that I would have fun on and the current PITA process to get it road legal in ontario, I dropped the idea and just settled on looking for a gas bike. I will have to eventually get a car once I move out of the city, but that will probably be a gas vehicle as well.

How do you get a road legal suron? You don't have a 1000 watt ebike. You have an electric motorcycle that looks like an ebike. To be an ebike, it must comply with every condition outlined, otherwise it's just a motorcycle (without the legally required license and insurance).

I don't drive my bike like an idiot, It tends to max out at 30-35km/h. It looks like a normal street/gravel bike. I am not anti-ebike regulation, I live in toronto for gods sake. I almost get killed by e-mopeds in the bike lane daily. My 1000w bike sounds like it would be a lot of power, but its honestly very subtle and can be used basically like a normal bike with no power. For comparison, surron-likes tend to be enduro styled, output starts at 12kw and get crazier from there depending on the model. I would not be comfortable riding something like that on the street unless I had a real VIN, registration, and insurance to go with it.

Lucid Air at ski hill this morning. Last year quite a few young asian men in Taycan turbos. I didn't see driver so I don't know if this is a replacement or a different person. I think this was the fist time I have seen a Lucid in the wild.

Most cars or trucks would struggle if the tires are wrong for the conditions.

I’m no fan of CT, but let’s put proper winters on and then judge its performance.

I'm not sure any sympathy is due here.

First, those look like snow tires.

It would be illegal for this truck to be registered and driving in Quebec at the time this video was taken without snow tires, and since it has no front plate, it's safe to assume it's likely a quebec registered vehicle.

Secondly, even my old AWD Dodge magnum that never had anything other than it's crappy all season tires on it would have pulled itself out of this without as much as a second thought. I'm sure lots of AWD/4WD cars and pickups would have had no problem getting out of this.

Heck, this was my Volt in the parking lot at work during the snowmageddon we got hit with in 2022 and it got out of this and (almost) all the way home (before, yes, I did get stuck on our street and had to park at a nearby school) with all season tires.

The Cybertruck is AWD. There really is no excuse for this.

7000 lbs. Spin a bit and you now need to climb up a ramp to get out. That being said, EV's could easily program in auto-rock to quickly get out of these situations. In ICE, the transmission changing from forward to reverse and back really slows things down. EV with an IMU module could probably easily rock itself out of tons of places.

Nissan was apparently on the verge of bankruptcy, so this is a merciful solution for them in the end I'm guessing. Hope Honda is happy with whatever they're getting out of the deal.

i've said it many times in this thread, Nissan is a Japanese GM. A big, clueless company lacking any direction or vision.

they do have talented engineers, and can actually churn out a decent product when they want to, but clueless upper management.

My take is that this is a good merger for all parties involved. Nissan will be the big winner here.
