Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Just looked up pricing on Volts…holy crap. Could probably get 5-7k more than what I paid for it. But wtf am I gonna buy?

Buddy has a 2017 LT with 80k and a dealership just offered him 23k. I paid 19.5k for my 2018 LT and currently at 100k.

Yep. The Volt arrived before it's time, and was killed just as it would have come into it's prime. They are under insane demand right now.

I could sell my 2011 for more than I paid for it 4 (5?) years (and about 70,000km I think) ago right now. Paid $23K for our 2017 premiere with just under 90,000km at the time and we could easily sell it now and make bank.

has very little to do with "ahead of time".... more like current market timing with the chip shortage.. (how quickly we forget the ridiculous house thing?)

its happening across the board.

I've had dealers offer me 10g above purchase for my 2020 cargo van. Yes, a simple box with wheels are in high demand.

I sold an 8 year old Accord, for 2g less than I paid for it in 2014 and Im certain I could have gotten more if I held out.

Oh dear, and yes, I checked the calendar, its not April 1st.

From the brilliant minds of GM.......This is the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq.

starts at "north of....US$300,000" aimed squarely at Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maybach and other fine purveyors of motor cars.

I'm certain Jeff and Elon will be lining up for this one....

That thing looks almost as ugly as the Honda Clarity.

Oh boy….that’s not gonna help public perception!

What a stupid article. Try taking your ice vehicle to a dealership at 170K with a blown engine and see what number they give you. Go to an independent shop with a real technician not just a part swapper. This will not be a five figure problem to repair. Mid four figures probably to pay for the skill, experience and a few dollars worth of failed parts.

Yes…but that headline doesn’t sell articles.

So with the high used car prices, I've been contemplating trading in or selling the Volt on a Bolt EUV - just a base LT is fine for me.

Based on what I see online my 2017 Volt Premier with 75k km can sell for about $32k ... $2k more than what I bought it almost 4 years ago used. 😲

With an EUV LT I figure about $43k OTD after the $5k Gov't rebate. That means I'd pay $11k for a new vehicle + or -.

With the parts shortages parking a few Volt's on the forums for months on end I'm starting to wonder if I should or not but I was told by the local dealer that it's a 6-12 month wait for a new Bolt EUV. Yikes.

I’m also considering the same.

My buddy just sold his 2017 LT Volt with 80k or so. One dealership offered him 18, another 23, and a private buyer offered him 25k within the last 2 weeks.

He ended up selling it to his brother in law for however much.

I’m very tempted to let my 2018 go and seeing what I can score a Bolt for.

EDIT: but I’d much more prefer a Mach-E

That's lower than what I see now.

Selling prices are much more useful than asking prices. Asking prices are almost useless. Hell, MP's old WRX kept pingponging up and down by many thousands before it sold. Dealership was just throwing mud at a wall to see what sticks.
You're definitely not wrong there but that's quite the difference between $32k and $22k average.

All a moot point if you don't want to order and wait up to a year ... who knows what used car prices will be like then.

22 was trade in. You expect that to be thousands less. A real offer on the table in the private market of 25 is worse for the volt owner than a trade in at 23 (and more of a pain in the ass). It would be interesting to know how much they sold to BIL for. Anything less than 26 and they were losing money vs the trade.

I’m not gonna bother asking but the dealer prices were not trade ins. Just purchase.

He was looking to go down to a single car as both him and his wife are 100% WFH. His Y is sufficient for their needs.

Yeah you'll get a value of trade-in x 1.13 which is something to consider for sure.

That’s a good point and I’m curious how that works.

Let’s say I buy a Bolt today. Trade in today is 20k (for fun). Car takes 6 months and now dealership offers 15k instead of 20.

Do they hold the price or is it up for renegotiation at time of actual purchase and not deposit.
