Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

That's a problem for us as ac on is a must in the tropics....we will likely get a hybrid in the next few years ....something with a 40-50km EV range.

On the Max (non energy conserving) mode I have yet to see an EV or PHEV that won’t freeze you out of the cab. Our 2017 will get so cold inside the windows start to collect condensation on hot humid days.

In my eyes, I'm picking the Honda version for sure over the Blazer.

So...buy a Honda priced at a premium, and then pay a monthly subscription to use certain features?

I'm not liking this new subscription model....I am curious what services they'll actually bill monthly for in this JV with Sony.

Agreed. Is it the same styling as the Lyriq?

Not at all. I think it's the same/similar underneath (GM Ultium a.k.a. BEV3), but GM is trying to differentiate Cadillac from Chevy. The days of all GM divisions using the same bodyshell with different grille, taillights, and interior trim are gone.

Get used to it, this is already happening NOW. Automakers are looking for sources of recurring revenue.

I believe Tesla started this?

also I believe, BMW, they charge you a subscription if you want heated seats and apple car play connectivity
EDIT: BMW starts selling heated seat subscriptions for $18 a month

Lexus, if you want remote car starting, pay up.
EDIT: Lexus Charges a Subscription Fee for Remote Start

I'm certain there are other automakers following this path currently.

great to see GM came to their senses and will be equipping the 24 model with proper door handles,

those ridiculous looking "shark fins" on each door of the 23 is design failure.

I won't get used to it. I'm spiteful. I'll do without. If more people have my opinion, these changes won't continue or be successful.
I'm with you. I grudgingly pay for some subscriptions on things that are continually improved (software) but I will not pay a subscription fee to access hardware. Charge me something up front and leave me alone.

Got a sponsored damon ad on fb today. Still banging the delivery in 2023 drum. Apparently test rides and third party reviews to start early in 2023. If that happens before june 30, I would be surprised. If you buy a premium ($40k), they all get built first and lower tiers ($28k) get built later. Premium has brembo/ohlins but it seems much of the premium in price is paying for early access.

Hardware that you already paid for, as it''s already installed. They want you to pay to use it. Not this guy.

Well, you may not have paid for it but that gets very grey and is impossible to prove either way.

I have some professional equipment that you pay a base price for hardware and then pay more for every feature you want to unlock. One time fees so that is reasonable imo. Saves the manufacturer from needing to make and stock 1000 skus and allows me to pay for what I need when I need it. FWIW, some individual features cost more than the original hardware.

I won’t be buying a car where there is a subscription model for usage of features in the car.

I can see the case for used cars but then you’re no longer able to sell / trade that car in as having those features. There was a case of a Tesla buyer getting a used model with all the features only to find that Tesla turned them off the minute the new ownership was registered. BS move.

As for me, just cracked 100k on the Volt…time for a new one lol?

Started with 87km of range, no heat except the seat and steering wheel. Used 57km of the range.

Insanity with that type of acceleration. Good for them.

I wonder what the fastest acceleration will end up being where it’s no longer beatable.
It will be traction limited. Drag cars are in a different world of acceleration but they have warm sticky tires on a glued track. Top fuel is on the order of 0.8 seconds and even more impressive, one car length to get to 60 mph.

The biggest hurdle is available traction. A Top Fuel dragster is doing 60 mph before it's rear tires cross the start line. 0-100 mph in .8 seconds.

this article is far more detailed and interesting. needless to say, can't wait to see what 2 of my favourite brands come up with. Can you imagine the killer displays and camera tech Sony will be pumping in this thing?

or buy from manufacturers that don't charge.
Ford's remote start and vehicle control app is lifetime without charge. I know most other vehicle makes charge a monthly fee after the first while.
don't get me started on BMW pay to use carplay...

Almost 50k on my camry hybrid. So far only oil changes, ZERO recalls, zERO maintenance, brakes look like new and tires are not wearing unevenly.

I'm sold on hybrids or evs for a daily driver now even though they can be boring to drive
