Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Assuming it’s a Clipper Creek EVSE the yes they are dual voltage. Make sure it’s a clipper creek (post a photo) as I’d they happened to swap it out with somemetning else, most others are not 240v friendly.

Take note it’s not a true L2, it’s L1.5, so 16A@240v, not 32a like a true L2. But all Volts aside from the last 2019 model year only charge at 16A on 240v anyways so it’s no biggie. Still halved charging time. And the install for a 16A 240v circuit to your garage is waaaaaay less expensive then a 32a circuit. If you’re handy you can basically do it yourself with a roll of armour wire off the shelf from Home Depot and a new breaker.

Yep that’s a Clipper Creek model. Indeed 240V capable and only needs a 20A 240v circuit, assuming a run length within code.

Awesome thanks. When I looked it over and saw only the 120 I was confused. But it appears that capability isn’t advertised.

the one good thing the previous owner did is move the panel to the garage at the front of the house....not the back.

Also I can create that adapter for the cottage, as the laundry plug in is right beside the driveway also and won’t need any type of extension. That panel needs to be upgraded from the 60A fuse box though.

It’s not advertised as 240 as it would need a nonstandard (240v) plug to work @ 240 in the North American market and still be to code.

In the euro market however where everything is 240v they just change the plug to euro standard and change the decal and boom.

uhhhh, there is a GIANT "c-UL-us" Listed logo rating from proper engineers, for a reason. its listed, tested and confirmed for 120V. not 240
Just because you "can" make it 220, doesn't mean you "should"

when you frankenstein it at 240v and your house burns down, the fire marshall investigates, and the insurance company tells you you are screwed, get back to me...

You will be my first call @SunnY S after I pick up the pieces.

my next research topic is whether the L2 charger I have can be left outside and what the temperature range is.

I hate the coiled cord and want a straight cord. Cant properly close the garage door with that thing coiled up so I have to stoop beside the door as I close it to ensure the proper coil section is below the door. Super frustrating.

no it wouldn't.

If you bought a hydrogen car, you wouldnt need to worry about the cord :D

There’s actually a surprising amount of electronics that do to the same thing - will work perfectly fine if you plug them into 240v even if they’re labelled for 120v.

It just takes one guinea-pig willing to try it and find out if that’s the case, or if the magic blue smoke is released. ?

If you look at transformers for things like
Laptops and such however they’re fairly typically dual voltage now, so when travelling all you need is a plug adapter, not actually a full voltage step-down. A lot of other electronics are the same, they’re just not labelled such because of regulations or CYA or whatever.

A few friends have natural gas in their car and they love it. But they run 50-70k/year so it pays off fairly quick. My buddys Tundra died at 500,000km in less than 5 years.
He bought a brand new F150 and said at 7-8k installed the tank doesn’t make sense as the Ford is fairly efficient at 10l/100km so it would take too long to pay it off.

Working is one thing, but Sunny is correct that it doesn't have the stamp. If there was ever a fire caused by the charger used outside of its rating and/or the adaptor cord (which I think is a code violation by itself as you aren't allowed to put 220V on a NEMA 5-15 receptacle as someone else could use it unknowingly and start a fire), it may be a fight with your insurance company.

Mine has been outside tie wrapped to the fence for 3 years plugged into a 20a 220 at the house with a custom 12 guage cord with a 110 plug on the other end.

Sent from my chesterfield using my thumbs

Great thanks. I'm glad I kept it.

I'm speaking as if though I bought the car already lol. Meanwhile I haven't.

Planning on driving the BOLT as well this weekend....but not sure I can get over the look of it. Will have to see how it drives.

Meh who cares. You’re getting it for practicality not fun.

Sweet thanks @Brian P and @Scuba Steve appreciate the fast response.

dealer offered me just shy of what I wanted for my car so I walked. Let’s see how it goes this weekend. Drive a 2018 LT. Would prefer the Premiere but they’re harder to find. My buddy has the brown leather seats and they look sweet but haven’t found that yet.
@mimico_polak here's some sales help to get more money for your trade in.

So I asked about the CARFAX for a Bolt I want to drive...looks promising.
