Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Haha, I lightly baited a T3 at a light yesterday (tipped in a little more than normal just to put a car length on him below 30 km/h to see what his ego was like). He obviously destroyed me after that and popped over the top of a hill where there is always a cop waiting (dump on ferndale) and he got lit up. Probably 80-90 in a 50.
But, why?

Just to see if he bought a Tesla for efficiency or to brag. I got my answer.
No one buys anything for efficiency, always to brag. Even if they only brag about the efficiency.

I thought the reason would be to make the world slightly more cold & uncaring. Nobody needs that right now.

I bought my first motorcycle years ago to ‘save money on gas’ so I didn’t use my Gen V6 3.8 .... totally saved money. LoL

Umm, we bought out first volt (basically the genesis of this thread) as well as a second one for the very purpose of saving on gas. Bragging was hardly on the radar. If I bragged at all, it was about how little gas we were using and how little they cost to operate on a per kilometer basis, which in very much about the efficiency in the end.

As for our Ioniq, trust me, not bragging much about it at all aside from, again, perhaps how cheap it is to drive. The car itself appearance / cachet wise is honestly booooorrringgg.

On that topic, with gas hovering back around $1.30/L again the arguments against an EV that were made in this very thread a month or two and maybe 10 pages back are once again in question. Gas has gone up 30% inside a few months. Electricity has not. ;)

Just checking in. Saw a Tesla on a flatbed tow truck today. Happy to be able to say my bumpers and roof are still attached. Car still runs, drives, stops.. even at 10 years of age. Battery has not needed replacing. Guess GM engineering wasn't so bad after all.

I'm certain all the pre 2020 bolt owners would agree with you.

GM's solution in the article below? Park the Bolt away from your house.....

Yep bought a Prius wagon to brag. I am neck deep in pussy.
Take a look above at the Tesla on a flatbed. Even if it's how your beater isn't on a flatbed, or you're saving the planet, it's to brag. Kitty cats aside.

Hook, line, sinker.

Anyhow. Looks like Toyota has hurt feelings because nobody is taking their hydrogen powered car wet dreams seriously.

LOL

“If we are to make dramatic progress in electrification, it will require overcoming tremendous challenges, including refueling infrastructure, battery availability, consumer acceptance, and affordability.”

Right. I can buy an EV today and plug it into an electrical outlet in my house today and drive around with it. I can even drive across the country with it. Are there weak spots in the coverage area? Sure. But we can use what we've already got and build on top of it.

And a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle would be an expensive paperweight because there's nowhere to refuel it. No refueling infrastructure at all. (4 filling stations in the country might as well be 0)

It is indeed bloody ironic how they downplay electric charging infrastructure but still seem to have a hard on for hydrogen in the same breath.

Delusional.

Went to take a look at a Gen2 Volt today, and when I checked the L1 charger it stated 110V on the back. However, I distinctly remember there being some comments that stated the L1 charger on the Gen2 Volts works with both 110 and 220VAC.

Can anyone confirm?

Yes. You can make up an adapter to go from a 220V plug of your choice (NEMA 10-30 or 10-50) to a 110V receptacle using bits and pieces from Home Depot so that you can plug that charger into 220 volts, and it will work fine.

Sweet thanks @Brian P and @Scuba Steve appreciate the fast response.

dealer offered me just shy of what I wanted for my car so I walked. Let’s see how it goes this weekend. Drive a 2018 LT. Would prefer the Premiere but they’re harder to find. My buddy has the brown leather seats and they look sweet but haven’t found that yet.

Just be very careful to pull that thing out of the wall when you aren't using it (or somehow secure the receptacle). You don't want the wife/MIL/kid plugging in something and letting the smoke out.

Assuming it’s a Clipper Creek EVSE the yes they are dual voltage. Make sure it’s a clipper creek (post a photo) as I’d they happened to swap it out with somemetning else, most others are not 240v friendly.

Take note it’s not a true L2, it’s L1.5, so 16A@240v, not 32a like a true L2. But all Volts aside from the last 2019 model year only charge at 16A on 240v anyways so it’s no biggie. Still halved charging time. And the install for a 16A 240v circuit to your garage is waaaaaay less expensive then a 32a circuit. If you’re handy you can basically do it yourself with a roll of armour wire off the shelf from Home Depot and a new breaker.
