AGM renovations is owned by a friend of a friend.
Started off with one guy on a phone pretending to be a huge operation.
All he does is sell the work to subs and does minimal vetting.

Not a bad way to do things, if legit and quality work. But, that's rarely the Case.
Great way to do things. I knew 2 brothers who were making bank by doing the same thing.
But they kept a solid crew that was reliable and consistent in quality.

I don't think that family name has much value left. They've squeezed everything they could from it.
I always felt that AGM seemed shifty from the very beginning, but when they started running commercials 2 or 3 years ago trying to put fear into people that if their bathroom was over 10 years old (how utterly ridiculous!!) it was basically dangerous and going to leak and destroy their house, I lost what little respect I had for them at that point.
That's right up there with the old door to door hot water tank salespeople who used to scam little old ladies into 25 year rental and service contracts by instilling fear that their existing tanks were dangerous and about to explode at any time.

I dunno…
Bought an ultrasonic rodent repeller 1.5 years ago after finding a whack of mouse droppings in my basement guest bed. Properly cleaned everything and installed the ultrasonic device. Haven’t had an issue since.
Correlation isn't causation though.
We had mice in our basement last year.
This year, not a single one anywhere to be seen.
I've changed absolutely nothing at all.
Maybe the neighbours house has better pickings this year. Maybe one of the neighbourhood foxes decimated the local population. Maybe someone has a new outdoor cat somewhere that's scaring them off. Who knows.
Mike lost the plot and his advisors and business associates didn’t help steer him back . They just steamed down the road . Mike is mostly retired except appearances, I feel bad as his adult kids now running things and spin off shows inherited a really bad brand .

To be fair the endorsement agreement could have been made with conditions they would use proper tradesman and AGM later did their own thing without his knowledge.
Most things he seemed to have licensed his name too seem shady and with absolutely zero effort from holmes group to keep tabs on the people sending them money. While they can't have full oversight, the holmes group approach seems to value the incoming money above all else.
If you have a top notch legitimate reno company you don’t need the Holmes group , you’re too busy already . If you are at the Toronto sportsman show and find a booth for a basement and bathroom renovator , why on earth would you engage that ? They need Mikes mug to help convince people .
I feel very bad for people that spend thousands on a really bad reno , the construction is stress enough without crap result .

To be fair, very little about AGM wasn't sketch from the onset, see above comment on their ridiculous commercials trying to scare people that a 10 year old bathroom must be gutted and redone, or else. Surely I wasn't the only one who heard that particular commercial, it was playing every 20-30 minutes on 680News for quite some time before they moved onto some other crap.
For anyone that's interested.. take a look at how Mike ended up on TV..
Mike Holmes was not a home builder.. He was small contractor.. hired to work on a show.. He somehow talked this way into making believe he knew what he was doing... The projects he did on the shows.. with lots of production help and other contractors running the project.. were more than he had ever done prior.
IMO.. He was nothing more than a product pumper.

And yet.. Mike still signed up.
I can basically find someone I know in the majority of the local GTA / Muskoka home shows that feature local guys installing granite or measuring granite.
If it's not a cousin, it's a friend, or a friend of a friend in the background.
I guess they can talk their way into a life of luxury also if they can spill the bullcrap like Mike!
