I’d say operation Athena qualifies.

i don’t know enough about @J_F to say if he was active reg force or volunteered to go as a reservist. Maybe even a civilian contractor…but anyone who went to that region deserves some respect.

I believe like ISIS, Taliban have aspirations to become a califate.

Why not let them? We let Saudi Arabia do that, and we arm them. All because we want their oil, we turn a blind eye.

Some of that sounds like a load of baloney but something weird is going on.

Afghanistan has a lot of untapped natural resources. And the Taliban of today, are not those of the 1990s. They'll push to legitimize their government, because life must go on, and after 4 decades of war, peace isn't a bad thing.

If it means not sparking another war by giving amnesty to those who worked for the previous government, and they let women work which brings in more tax revenue and doubles their economic output. It is likely not the end of their world.

It would be a good thing if the income from those resources was used to make life better for the average Afghani. Any bets?

I wonder how the vetting of refugees will work. What if they empty their prisons onto our shores like Castro did to the USA. How do we send them back?

People care about things when you dangle it in front of their face. Probably wouldn’t look twice at the local homeless guy until someone shared a sob story about how he got there.
