308 km/h on the QEW

Sadly the way our legal system works, you normally get time for the first one and then the rest are thrown in as freebies or a slightly modifier (eg +10%)

That's how it used to be for "life sentences" in Canada.
You got 25 years for the first count.. and any more ran time concurrently.
They changed that a while ago.. and you've seen people getting 75 years and such now.

Heard on the radio that there were 9 cars pulled off the road for street racing last night...or maybe the weekend. Regardless...cops are keeping busy.

Sounds like the kid was actually 18, and tried to tell the cops he was comfortable at that speed because he had done some sort of track driving, haha.

From what I've heard, the car and insurance was in Dad's name, so that's some potential insurance fraud there.

I hate when things like this happen because, just like firearms, people all over the comments section and facebook are all like "wHy Do ThEy EvEn MaKe CaRs ThAt CaN dO tHiS?!?!". Ruins it for everyone, some people just hate the thought of others having any fun (which isn't to say this is the sort of fun people should be having).

Why should you have nice things if I can't because (wife/money/any reason under the sun)? LoL That's the attitude I've seen all around.

I don't think we'd ever get to the level where the gov't would stop people (or ban) high powered cars. However, we are in unprecedented times so they may slide in a few laws which are for 'our own good'. Let's hope there's accountability and cooler heads prevail.

EDIT: However, I would even support a graduated licensing system where you are limited to a certain level of power/performance on each class that goes alongside the G1/G2/G system. As you graduate, your level of performance can be increased with each license class.

I would love that (and tie it to access to the left lane) but it will never happen. Instead of a class on top, they could choose to actually make it hard to get a keep a normal license but they don't even have the political will to do that. Politically in Ontario, driving is a ride to be bestowed upon anyone who wants it.

G1 test is in 20 languages. When was the last time you saw a sign along the highway in 20 languages? If you can't pass the G1 in English or French, you aren't ready for the privilege of driving in Ontario yet, keep studying.

Road tests should be required within 30 km (or similar) of your primary residence. Doing a road test in Lindsay and then driving daily in Brampton was useless.

I still think there should be a recurrent short driving simulator test. Something that puts you under stress and evaluates your reactions. If you fail, you need to complete driving school (or similar) within 12 months. So many people passed a road test once (barely) and do not have any capacity to deal with anything other than driving straight on an unobstructed road.

When my cousins in Poland told me that they had to show that they can change a flat tire during their driving test...I was shocked. The requirements are so difficult that the majority of people don't pass on the first attempt.

Some ins co's have already drawn a HP line in the play book.
I've "heard":
if your car / truck exceeds 450hp, another co is 490hp, they don't insure them any more.

That just leads to games like in the old days where magically everybody's cars make 490 hp. At the track their seems to be a big difference in speed though. Or poke the computer in the brain and whammo-blammo 750 here we come.

He is 18, why are they not publishing the name? I am sure if it was any of us they would... Maybe a little naming and shaming for the useless parents is in order.

I dont like the naming on charge, I would much prefer naming after conviction (this applies to most things, I dislike trashing people publically that later are not found guilty and get basically no press to cancel the exisiting story). That being said, standard policy is to name on criminal charges so it should apply here too.

I have seen a name but the source was very dubious so I wont perpetuate it without a better source.

They published his name, Noah Lauricella. I've seen a few sites with it posted.

There are a lot of issues with the current driving standards here. Lots of stories out there about having other people doing the testing or insurance fraud (one person being insured in the house and everyone using the car). I can't confirm the stories, I've just heard them. I can confirm that people blind AF regularly drive around all of the time. There is no standard for mental function for older drivers (or any drivers), so as long as they pass the vision test, they're good to go; they can be nearly comatose and it's fine.

The police aren't always up on the law either. I was pulled over for "cutting off" an unmarked Ram in Burlington who was taking a left turn at a light; he wanted to change lanes in the middle of the intersection and thought he should be allowed to do so. I was taking a right turn into an empty lane, and he gave me a lot of attitude about why I didn't have the right of way (I did). I see people changing lanes while turning all of the time, I don't know if it's just because people don't care or don't know.

That was not the name I saw at all. Glad I didnt perpetuate what I saw.

Comedy gold. Do we think this was pfaff review written by 15 year old him?

Very welcoming, proffesional staff I could t say enough great things about everyone there! Overall a great place if your looking for a Porsche I wouldn't recommend anywhere else but Pfaff! I must say the younger staff such as Receptionist, sales assistants, parts deparement and so on are very great people and very proffesinonal! Always a great time at the dealer ship whether I'm getting a car serviced or just simply browsing everyone is very welcoming and great management team I would say as well! Over all if your gonna drive a high performance luxury automobile I would say to drive anything but PFAFF! Keep up the great work!

And typically if you're borrowing a car, you don't have your own (unless you REALLY need that car) so the accident would go through the owner's insurance. Then let the owner and driver fight it out.

No different from red light cameras. Owner gets the ticket, and it's on him to settle with the driver.

Fines linked to income is not a brand new concept, it's currently used in very few countries.

The downside is the police ignore speeding Ladas while waiting for a MB to come along.

I see a new market for high performance Ladas coming on....need to call my cousins see if they can find some in Poland. Ship them over and PROFIT! New kit car conversions.

I figured he get 12-14 years.. and that would have been about right in my mind. I think 10 years was a little light...

I'm OK with 10 years but if you want to change someones behaviour without wrecking their life, spread the pain. Ten years served a month a year for 100 years. Getting it in one lump lets them forget. Summer vacation is making license plates or mail bags. You kill someone you never forget. Your friends remember too. The victim's families don't ever forget.

Facts, the nail that sticks out gets hammered. My black F150 blends in and is never looked at twice. My orange HHR, while a docile station wagon, stands out and can easily get a 10 over ticket, last time that even came with a bonus failure to provide proof ticket because I forgot to take the old ins slip out of my wallet and put in the new one. I guess they can see in the system if you have valid insurance, but if you don't have a current slip on you, then you get the proof ticket.

As for Muzzo, 4x murder and 2x assault with a weapon, would suffice. When you get into a consensual fight, there aren't normally any charges, however if there is an injury, then you get assault causing bodily harm, regardless of the consent. The crown's reasoning is that sure, maybe you didn't set out to intentionally hurt the person, but there is a reasonable expectation of outcome. The same reasoning shout be used with dui when it results in death, maybe digging your keys out of your pocket after a night of binge drinking, you don't intend to murder 3 children, and their grandfather. But there you are.

The last word in condemnation of how easy it is to get a driving license in this country, is really had by Canada's Worst Driver. A show that found no shortage of mental midgets behind the wheel, for 14 straight years. Only coming to an end after the show's executive producer passed away in 2017.

Its about to get extra stupid for this kid, the Premier is saying throw the book at him, so poliuce and crown are under some pressure.
And police are now wondering how a car how a speed capped car (180mph) got to 191mph with some pedal left apparently, and now the insurance carrier will wonder about a modded car that was not reported, daddy will be quite unhappy for a while.

it wont be long until the new muscle cars are legislated out of existence, thanks dickheads.

I believe that it takes 3 years to get your license in Finland.

At the end of it you need to demonstrate a controlled spin out on ice.
