Thanks - my rotator cuff is torn ...the doc did not think surgery would help initially and I was managing it with Celebrex and an annual shot of corticosteroids which were magic early on.
But the last round didn't do much and the problem has gotten entangled with my carpal tunnel so my right arm wants to sieze up making throttle control very painful towards the end of a couple hours. With a palm throttle and a throttle lock I can do okay on the slab but anything needing accurate throttle control gets more and more painful ...so 40 minutes in Toronto traffic getting to my daughter because the Lakeshore was closed was a killer yesterday.
I've done a couple of 300-400k this year and was hoping to get a 5-600k ride in the next week. Seating seems okay with the AIrhawk works. A big plus for my neck and shoulder was the vario lip so satisfied with the air pocket.....ethe asy to hear the audio books. I can rest my right arm on the tnak bag while the throttle lock is on. That's what I did coming back from Vancouver last year. I could do 700-850 a day tho the daily strain on my right arm likely caused some additional damage. That's what's giving me a hard time this year.
I might try a steroid shot this year but can't got for one yet.
I am forever stretching and moving my right arm around even when working ....when the damage first occurred 5 years ago from a come off on the KLR on green moss, normally a low side the shoulder armour works fine ...did before but riding partner said the foot peg dug in when the front wheel washed out and torqued me down hard.
The other lesson is do the damn jacket up .....it was hot and humid and we'd stopped at a giant fallen tree across the trail - could not go on. Was neat to see that monster and we were distracted and I didn't gear up completely. So light rain, slightly downhill, jacket half open and green moss I'd been warned about ...tropical black ice.
Came down on the point of my shoulder unarmoured = torn rotator cuff - that was a seriously painful ride home. I had to lift my right on onto the throttle with my left.
For a year could not get the arm much above my shoulder with any strength and with lots of pain if I pushed it. I got more mobility over time and can go straight up now with decent power but one arc still hurts ....nothing awful. After about 90 minutes tho the whole arm stiffens up.
Now someone mentioned muscle relaxant and that has realllllllly helped. Methocarbanol. Still working on the best combination of Celebrex and the relaxant.
Of course getting used the CBF1000 again complicates it .....chasing a 20mm riser which I've had on every bike I've owned except the CB500x. Can't find one and since it is going to be kids bike - don't want to spend too much.
Bike is fun with twice the power of the CB500x - not as light around town but nice to crank out on the highway. I'll keep chipping away and hopefully pull off that Pickle Lake ride. Long daylight I can break it up - the CBF is thirsty so 250 km a tank...less likely if stations are far apart.
Picked up a really nice Klim kidney belt today ....I find they help on long days and I left mine somewhere. Grip Buddies arriving Wed, got a few new audio books - luggage is really nice on the CBF ..just gotta nurse this shoulder.
