2020 Day Trips!

Went to Kincardine and Bruce Power Plant area from Waterloo on a SV650N.

Fun day.

I am still a new rider and I think I got too ambitious, my shoulders were aching!!!

I went to both those areas this past Saturday. When did you go?

Sent from the Moon!

Went puttering around today, nothing much in mind, other then hitting HWY 45 from Norland over to Rama. New to me, very nice road.
Wasn't expecting this ride to be as long as it was. Checking out the Rever app, it's ok.

Last Thursday‘s run up 507 and 3 to Haliburton for lunch.

Take out only but found a great lunch spot beside the lake in town.

After lunch, we went up Eagle Lake Rd and then along the North Shore and then up 35 and around Halls Lake and then down to see the kayakers on the Gull River near Minden.

Nice looking route! Might have to explore some of that.

I wish some of these mapping/route tracking apps could streamline the visuals like Googlemaps does, I find them more cluttered looking and less focused on the routes/roads.

I still use the TomTom app as I like the WInding Roads feature - but don't know about the new app.

I have been a beta tester of Scenic for the past year and would say it is very good especially for quickly creating and navigating routes, but until we have a phone with Glove friendly touch sensitive screens It will be tough to get the ease of use like the Zumo or TomTom.

I do have screen friendly gloves but it is just not as good as having a glove friendly screen.
Have been migrating away from the Zumo and only take in on longer tours.

Scenic’s ease of plotting or amending a route is excellent plus you can control your music and podcasts in the app.

You can use the free version to try it out and they give you 20 credits to download offline maps or use for voice guidance etc.

Once comfortable with it, you can pay an annual fee or lifetime fee but still will need to buy additional credits if you need to download many offline maps.

Scenic at this time is only available for IOS.
They are in the process of developing an Android version.

what do you think of Scenic?

This was my route through Algonquin Park and back home on Sunday. Not one cop the whole trip. Almost no traffic all day (except for 10 bike Harley train on 118 with a chase car who were apparently doing a charity ride) The roads were all in pretty good shape with the exception of a few kms of dirt on Hwy 60 between Dwight and Huntsville. It was a great day, coolish temps, no bugs. I'd go again today if I weren't busy!

Not a cruiser guy but damn that seat looks comfortable. Closest I've come is the Burgman 650 with an RDL on it....that was comfie for distance and still relatively light.
Seat is not the problem just now for distance .....damn hands and bad shoulder are. :(

Actually I am just using the stock HD Ultra seat for long rides, as in my recent photos. Highway pegs help.

I meant to reply in the old thread about your shoulder. I have had several problems with my left shoulder, and have a permanent tear in my back shoulder muscle, and possible stretched ligaments. Drugs help but moving your blood is the best, as it has inflammatory built in. So small simple exercies will help get the blood moving and build up the muscle. I know it's not fun, but it does help. Like shrugs, rotations, raising you arms above you head. 30 min's of exercise each day. Maybe you have gotten this advise already, thought I would share.

Took a trip to Pakenham. Didn't realize that one of the Seven Wonders was there.

Thanks - my rotator cuff is torn ...the doc did not think surgery would help initially and I was managing it with Celebrex and an annual shot of corticosteroids which were magic early on.

But the last round didn't do much and the problem has gotten entangled with my carpal tunnel so my right arm wants to sieze up making throttle control very painful towards the end of a couple hours. With a palm throttle and a throttle lock I can do okay on the slab but anything needing accurate throttle control gets more and more painful ...so 40 minutes in Toronto traffic getting to my daughter because the Lakeshore was closed was a killer yesterday.

I've done a couple of 300-400k this year and was hoping to get a 5-600k ride in the next week. Seating seems okay with the AIrhawk works. A big plus for my neck and shoulder was the vario lip so satisfied with the air pocket.....ethe asy to hear the audio books. I can rest my right arm on the tnak bag while the throttle lock is on. That's what I did coming back from Vancouver last year. I could do 700-850 a day tho the daily strain on my right arm likely caused some additional damage. That's what's giving me a hard time this year.

I might try a steroid shot this year but can't got for one yet.

I am forever stretching and moving my right arm around even when working ....when the damage first occurred 5 years ago from a come off on the KLR on green moss, normally a low side the shoulder armour works fine ...did before but riding partner said the foot peg dug in when the front wheel washed out and torqued me down hard.
The other lesson is do the damn jacket up .....it was hot and humid and we'd stopped at a giant fallen tree across the trail - could not go on. Was neat to see that monster and we were distracted and I didn't gear up completely. So light rain, slightly downhill, jacket half open and green moss I'd been warned about ...tropical black ice.
Came down on the point of my shoulder unarmoured = torn rotator cuff - that was a seriously painful ride home. I had to lift my right on onto the throttle with my left.
For a year could not get the arm much above my shoulder with any strength and with lots of pain if I pushed it. I got more mobility over time and can go straight up now with decent power but one arc still hurts ....nothing awful. After about 90 minutes tho the whole arm stiffens up.
Now someone mentioned muscle relaxant and that has realllllllly helped. Methocarbanol. Still working on the best combination of Celebrex and the relaxant.
Of course getting used the CBF1000 again complicates it .....chasing a 20mm riser which I've had on every bike I've owned except the CB500x. Can't find one and since it is going to be kids bike - don't want to spend too much.
Bike is fun with twice the power of the CB500x - not as light around town but nice to crank out on the highway. I'll keep chipping away and hopefully pull off that Pickle Lake ride. Long daylight I can break it up - the CBF is thirsty so 250 km a tank...less likely if stations are far apart.

Picked up a really nice Klim kidney belt today ....I find they help on long days and I left mine somewhere. Grip Buddies arriving Wed, got a few new audio books - luggage is really nice on the CBF ..just gotta nurse this shoulder. ?

Thanks for sharing this, look really interesting. I wish I could get out towards Ottawa for day trips. I guess I could if I got up much early....

i'm hunting for a new toy for next month. i'll be quickly looking to shred that 1,600/24 hours iron butt achievement.

I have a couple of days next week, wouldn’t mind meeting up for a day run.

Later this summer I plan a little far north exploring. Just bought a cheap investment property in Porcupine, gonna make a few trips that way in Aug. rough till I get it reno’d but it’s a roof, bed and shower as base camp for exploring that part of Ontario.

gonna play that close to the vest, don't wanna jinx it.

Oh sure i could but it would be extremely tiring and i'd need a nice flat route to keep the speed up.
