2012 Hyundai Elantra

Consider yourself lucky! Tons of threads on the mazda 3 forums about premature rusting of the wheel wells and fenders
I have a CX-7 and with 113,000 on it now it has zero corrosion. My gf called hyundai yesterday to make an oil change appt and she told them about the rust issue on the hood. They told her it was completely normal and then got mad and told her to take it up with a manager when she disagreed saying it wasn't.

Maybe its just me, but I would still rather take the 3 series.

reliability is important but that isn't gonna make me buy the IS... the thing just has no emotional pull.

If u googled the subframe issue u might have change your tune. If I spent that amount of money on a car and the rear wheel can rip out of a car, I have no faith in them. I went to several dealers to fight this and even contacted BMW canada. They want me to pay 50% of the cost, ie. $2,000. When there was a silent recall in the US.

No more BMW for me thank you, I lost faith in them. Plus have u look at the design of the newer models? <<barf>>

Well i might keep me from buying a beemer, but it wouldn't make me buy an IS =D

Well I am currently looking at like a range rover sport or something like that so I am kind of past my sporty sedan era =*(...

I really did want the Z a few years back but I really can't justify having a 2 seater AND a bike....

Lets just agree we have different taste in cars/automobiles because for the price of a R. Rover I won't spend anything on that. Plus there is nothing striking about the design.

I would prefer to get a ML 350 in diesel. Just my take on things

my problem with mercs ( and beemers ) is that if I drive one and I am in my weekend clothes... it looks like my parents bought it for me.... har har .

Just tell em you're a lawyer, they'll understand...

Regarding paint quality on these vehicles, I've just noticed on my gf's 2011 Sonata that the little stone chips on the hood are rusting very badly. Basically any chip no matter how small has the paint around it bubbling up and is rust coloured.

Didn't you get the memo? Rust is a standard feature on every new Hyundai.

Do a google search, several people with 2010 and 2011 Sonatas are complaining about rust issues. Looks like nothings changed.

And V6 automatic transmissions, and hybrid batteries. Every manufacturer has their share of stuff that they've bungled.

I am just about to get the brakes done at all four corners on my '06 Jetta, only the second time it has needed brakes. The car runs the same as it always has and it still looks good, and the interior is better than on the new ones, and I'll trust my "pumpe-duse" TDI engine at 362,000 km more than I'll trust the new common-rail engines from brand new! No plans to trade in.

If VW doesn't botch up the new Golf (and it looks promising from here), and they either fix that Bosch CP3 injection pump or replace it with a different design, I might look at those a year or two after they come out. Haven't found anything else that matches VW's ride and handling and steering, I just don't like the cheapening that they did with both Jetta and Passat.

I just did brakes on my o6 tdi jetta, VW makes me want to throw up right now. One of the kids drove home from a cottage with the hand brake on, so new rotors/calipers on the back. No argument there.
The master cylinder/vaccuum booster was acting up, pedal was slowly dropping. So here comes classic VW, we have redesigned the vaccuum booster, specific to the diesel and you have to change the master and booster as a unit. Niether part gets a warranty if not changed out together. $700 for a master and $200 for booster, that with rear brakes out the door @ $1900.
Parts for this car are retarded, much like all the import product for which not buying OEM is a huge problem.

I love the way it drives, it has ok ergonomics and comfort but geees

I have the 2012 highline jetta tdi and I disagree with the cheap interior complaints. Coming from a couple MBenz MLs I honestly like the interior more on the VW, its simplistic and intuitive no lame wood trim or chrome accents, and im not someone who cares about hard plastic vs soft plastic. This is my first diesel and I love the way this thing drives, wont buy another gasser as a commuter, the handling is also nice despite the switch to a solid read axle.

That being said the fully loaded diesel jettas arn't cheap, $34,000 OTD for a 2012 highline TDI isnt exactly econobox territory.

So I'm gonna be getting the Elantra from Stouffville Hyundai. We negotiated on a price. Anybody have experience with them?

Its the only car that I love in terms of styling, don't like the other cars out there. I figure, if it crapped out or has rust issues, its a cheap car and didn't spend a fortune on it

I'm curious if the Hyundai's that have premature rust on them were ever oil-sprayed or had any type of rust prevention done.

Once a year, or even twice a year, oil spray isn't really that expensive. I have done it on every 'nice' car I ever owned.

Is that for 2012 model or is that the manufacture date that is specified there?
That's making me nervous

not sure, it can't be worse than Mazda

We live in a region that enjoys dumping tens of thousands of tons of salt on our roads. It's a harsh environment for any car to live in. Domestic, european, japanese, i don't think it matters. If any car is untreated and unwashed it's likely there will be rust issues. Some cars are obviously more sensitive (Mazda 3s as an example) but getting the oil-spray done is a no brainer for any car you plan on keeping for more than a few years.

IMO

Not directed specifically at 'you', just a general 'you'.

Agreed!!
I've had my present car done too. There's only 2-3 rust spots on my 12 yr old car. Then again my present car is galvanized from the factory.

its no big deal they are just Bulletins and you have bumper to bumper warranty anyways....

Thanks.

The warranty is tempting and so is the unlimited roadside assistance for 5yrs (I think)
