2011 Kawi Ninja 400R - It's Here...

Maybe if this bike sells, yamaha might bring out a 250cc or 400cc bike.. personally i hope they bring a 400cc but more ss look, but im just dreaming

I'm sure the other manufacturers are going to announce similar bikes and the price will come down soon enough. But until then, Kawi just wants to monopolize the market.

Good looking bike too. Yea, it would be better if it looked like the 250--but I guess this particular look will go a long way to try to reduce the insurance and classify as a touring bike--but i could (and am probably) wrong.

At the beginning of this season my colleagues brother-in-law picked up a new in the crate '09 ZX-6R for $9,800 out the door. Yes, it was on sale, but if you have patience and look and maybe are willing to go with a 2nd choice colour....this makes the 400 seem really expensive. The EX500 I had was about 50hp and bloody reliable too.....sort of wish I kept it as an around town bike.

Yeah but after a year or 2 the initial excitement will be gone and you'll be able to get the 400s for $5,000. It's really not fair to compare a brand new release to a year old super sport that the dealer just wants to get rid off to make room for new bikes.
Also, the higher the asking price, the more room to shave it.

Not sure what to think of this class of bike. I don't really see the point having this and the 650 in the lineup. Doesn't the 650 only make like 70hp? It wouldn't be a ton faster or harder for a beginner to learn on.

Now this, would be where it's at.

A 45-50hp 4 cylinder would be where it's at? Not for a SS, that would be weak. That's less than they were making 20 years ago. I really think around 75hp would be a bit better for a 400-4. Only if they put it in a chassis to match though. We could really use something like that on the market here to keep new riders going right to 600's.

I highly doubt a 400-4 would escape being classified as a supersport. Just because it's smaller doesn't mean it wasn't built for high performance. Insurance would not be significantly lower than a 600.

It wouldn't escape SS classification, but it would be MUCH cheaper for a young person to insure. Trust me when I say the quote was a lot higher to insure an R6 than the VFR400R I ended up getting. More than double the amount actually.

And it wasn't because your VFR400R is a 93?

No. I don't see your point Retro? The R6 they quoted was a 1999 model. But It wasn't much less than a newer R6 to insure. Also, a newer RVF400R from 1998 would cost the same price to insure. Even though it's slower and less powerful than the earlier VFR400R model.

if im not mistaken you cant even get a 1998 RVF400R insured plated here in Ontario. Doesnt it have to be 15 years or older? Thats also when the supersport rate gets lifted. You can get a 1994 ZX-7R insured for roughly the same price as a modern 750cc cruiser.

I thought maybe you're insured with Jevco and they don't classify 1995 and older bikes as supersports so no surcharge.

very cool

curb mass 447lbs? is that same as the wet weight? where is the fun in that ? its pretty much an exact 650r with just a smaller engine the way i see it.

and its only 43hp compared to the 250r at 31hp and 650r 72hp (all crank hp off kawi website)

the 400 doesnt really make much sense to me over the 650r on paper
