2011 Kawi Ninja 400R - It's Here...

New ZX6-R's MSRP is 13,199...

Anyhow. Ninja 250's MSRP will go up, too, once Kawasaki introduces FI to it as in European and Japanese markets. I predict $500-$1,000 more.

I was at Snow City Kawasaki and Suzuki Sale day and i was quoted something like mid 8000's. I forgot which year though either 2009 or 2010.

Bit applause to Kawasaki. Finally someone gets the need for something with less than 600cc mill. Comes even with EFI, looks pretty good es well. But then I look at the MSRP and that's where I don't get it ....

Ninja 650R .... 8699
Ninja 400R .... 7499
Ninja 250R .... 4999

There is one big reason for this bike to be brought into Canada: Quebec.

In Quebec, the liability insurance is part of your license plate fee, so there is no shopping around for that, and anything bigger than 400cc gets a massive hit in the mandatory insurance cost.

they should have just changed the styling of the ninja 500r instead of discontinuing it

This was not an option. The Ninja 500 engine no longer meets current worldwide emission regulations. Besides, that bike had been in production for 23 years! A complete redesign was due. The new engine has a lot of improvements over the old EX500 design that could only be done by a complete redesign. The chassis has improvements that could only be had via a complete redesign.

Keep in mind that the Ninja 400 is just a downsized Ninja 650. I think the combination of the Ninja 400 and 650 (basically the same bike) are fitting replacements for the old Ninja 500.

Only downside I see is that the Ninja 400 is no lightweight.

I love the look of this one, but my dream bike is an FZ1. Ugly is relative I guess :)

We've discussed this ad nauseam. A 400-4 would cost the same to make as a 600-4 so the purchase price would also be very close. Since there is no CC limit for new riders in North America, everyone would just buy the 600s. Other countries get 400s because new riders are forced to ride smaller bikes.

Sure it would be similar in cost to the 600 to make, but i think that it would still sell because of insuance reasons. It wouldnt be classified as a ss, and many young people would be able to afford insurance on it.

Keep in mind that the FZ6R MSRP is 8,899 and the new 400 is 7,499

For learners. the under engine exhaust is a great idea as well...less leg burns.

nce my wife is done with her Ninja 250, it's this, or an EX500 motor stuffed into the 250's chassis.

wow, i believe this would be the next best beginner bike in the market...decent looking sport touring; more hp than ninja250r so you can outrun most of cars on hwy, more importantly it's fuel injected....

I wish it had a ZX series body. Oh well still looks good. I'd consider this if the insurance is good. I'm thinking of downgrading to a lower insurance bike.

I highly doubt a 400-4 would escape being classified as a supersport. Just because it's smaller doesn't mean it wasn't built for high performance. Insurance would not be significantly lower than a 600.

Another tiny bike with budget suspension? How about a bike that actually fits the average person (no bar risers or special pegs) and doesn't dive like a soccer player at the first hint of braking? That thing is built for teenagers.

price seems high... and ya someone mentioned the 250r resale market is going to take a hit... good thing i sold mine last week lol

Budget suspension, ugly banana seat upright seating position, an under powered 650r... no thanks. I liked the ex500 better.

I'd buy it if it were styled like the zx series bikes, but like this, meh...

If you were to consider this bike, you'd just end up going with the 650r since the price difference is negligible.

Well, you can't really compare sale price, last year's model price or a price you personally negotiate to a brand new model's MSRP, can you?

At the beginning of this season my colleagues brother-in-law picked up a new in the crate '09 ZX-6R for $9,800 out the door. Yes, it was on sale, but if you have patience and look and maybe are willing to go with a 2nd choice colour....this makes the 400 seem really expensive. The EX500 I had was about 50hp and bloody reliable too.....sort of wish I kept it as an around town bike.

Really happy with this. I wish it was styled like the zx...but I'd consider this. The 600 doesn't appeal to me, and most 400s are outdated/parts would be hassle.

Can't wait for the price to drop a little bit in a couple of years :D
