2003-2009ish CBR600RR and YZF-R6 Owners show yourselves!

I vote TAFB gets his own subforum so he doesn't derail threads :p

To the OP, have you looked at the Triumph Daytona 675? I wasn't really a big fan, then one ride and I was freaking sold.

i vote for a ban, or highlight his name in pink and add a disclaimer at the bottom that he's a fry short of a happy meal :lmao:

Yes I have kind of but the ins rates with the extra 75CCs will be too much. My current plan is CBR/R6 and then once rates drop an 848 EVO as its the most beautiful bike out there right now in my mind (675R is close though)

^^ Not for nothin but if it was me I'd go cbr. At least it's comfortable. The r6 looks badass but even sitting on one when I was looking at my gsxr bothered me. I'll second you with the 848 though. The white ones are stunning :thumbup:

Hopefully checking out at least 1 cbr and R6 this week. The R6 looks are what keep me coming back to it, hopefully seeing/sitting on them in person will finalize this decision.

Try to take it for a ride. In a word, it's punishing

The r6r might be punishing, but the 03-05 and the r6s I find quite comfortable. Never sat on one, but if you are looking at the 6 and RR, take a look at the f4i as well, I've heard it has the most relaxed seating position out of all the SS bikes

If you're planning on riding for long distance, but want a 600SS, get a CBR. I can cruise all day on my '07 no problem. 07+ R6's are murder on the wrists, you'll be stopping every hour. Disadvantage of the cbr is no cargo storage. Can't even fit a can of plexus with a towel...

Spend your money wisely, take your time, make the right decision. You'll thank yourself in the future.

R6 bro. i've had an 03, 08 and an 06. Handling with 06 is a lot of torque. Handling of the 08 is much better. And yes just like you it's the look of the R6 that got me.

I won't likely be doing too many long trips. For the most part I will be commuting and then taking tours on my days off.

@TFAB I saw your buddy's R6 online just after it was post but I think the miles are a bit higher than what I am looking for (bike looks awesome though).

You just gotta tilt the levers down a bunch and it's 100x better. Squeeze with your knees and keep the weight off your wrists ;)

Those things go forever, don't like the KM's worry ya. He's done all the major 40k maint, new steering head bearings, both wheel bearings, fork seals and fluid and valve adjustment. The thing is fresh like factory baby!

Dude you havent sat on either yet?? You'll probably buy the first one you see.

This is my biased opinion ;)
R6=looks
Cbr=everything else

That is a rather presumptuous thing to say. Because I haven't had a chance to sit on either I am automatically going to buy the first one I see? I created the thread to find out if there are any particular issues people have had with either bike. Many have been helpful in saying the R6 was uncomfortable for them, which I will test for myself. As you said it is a biased opinion, so your comparison is irrelevant to me. If you have comments on the CBR I will be glad to hear them.

@TAFB how long do you think a well maintained R6 engine will last 100k? 200k? I will not have this purchase for much more than 2/3 years, when I can get my hands on an 848, so I will not likely hit the end of the engines life.

Sorry I meant to say STFF.

Just get an R6. They have a similar riding position except the R6 is wider between the legs. So when you jump to the 848 later on you won't be bitchin too much about how aggressive it is :)

Buy mine. 2009 R6 with 25K on it. aftermarket everything $7000

I'd say 100k minimum. Throw a new timing chain in there somewhere around 60k and you're good to go :)

I own a 2008 CBR and a 2009 R6. I've also had toysareforboys flash my R6 ECU (thanks again). Long story short, buy the CBR for all the reasons already mentioned. Much better street bike because it :

- is much more comfortable
- has a better spread of torque where you'd likely be using it (below 12K)
- starts much better, cold or warm temps.. just perfectly, like God and Mr. Honda intended

The R6 has an awesome rush of power... once you cross 12K, and it turns very quickly, and has better brakes, the slipper clutch works reasonably well, and the bike looks gorgeous. But I would never consider riding it anywhere other than the track, especially as I use my bike to commute from home (Markham/Stouffville) to downtown Toronto, and I'm often stuck in a bit of traffic.

My 2 cents. I'm sure either bike will put a smile on your face.

You running stock sprockets on your R6? A -1/+2 makes it way more useful for around town. And nobody can touch this deal: http://www.superbikesupply.com/mm5/...20-yamaha&Category_Code=520-conversion-yamaha

After you get the sprockets I can recalibrate your speedo for ya too, no charge.

Thanks Jamie, but I'm already running -1/+2 on the R6 and it works like a charm. I'm running stock gearing on the CBR, and it still feels like a beast compared to the R6 anywhere below the screaming redline.
