Stolen jacket, community alert!

Look! A blue parka! Not blatant either!

OP, sucks to hear about your gf's loss.

With that said, though, it sounds like you're living beyond your means. If you lived within your means, losing a $X jacket wouldn't be a big deal, and you'd just get another one.

Please, become more financially literate, and stop trying to impress strangers (or your gf) with how much money you can throw away on a jacket.

OP, sorry for your loss, getting something stolen is always infuriating and upsetting. However P'sMan has a really good point. Luxury items should really only be purchased when it doesn't affect your financial status. If you have time, take a look at a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad; it's not the answer to financial help but there's definitely some great takeaways from this very short book. Here's an excerpt regarding luxury items:

"Rich people buy luxuries last, while the poor and middle class tend to buy luxuries first. The poor and middle class often buy luxury items such as big houses, diamonds, furs, jewelry or boats because they want to look rich. They look rich, but in reality they just get deeper in debt on credit. The old money people, the long-term rich, built their asset column first. Then, the income generated from the asset column bought their luxuries. The poor and middle class buy luxuries with their own sweat, blood, and children's inheritance."

A point the book makes is that you should get your money to work for you, you shouldn't work for your money. That being said, my dad invested wisely while he worked and could afford to buy all the cars since i was born for the family and pay for tuition for 3 kids (3 bachelors & masters) with the EXTRA money made from investing. So really it cost him nothing to put his kids through university, and get some cars because he was smart with his money. THAT is amazing, if you are smart enough with your money, long-term financial stability is way better than temporary 'luxury'. Way better than working that whole time and basically dumping the money you worked so hard for, from your bank account to your credit card. You'll never get out of that cycle.

Where did you guys get off that he's living beyond his means? Did he state how much he makes? For all we know he or his family is very well off. $700 is a lot for a jacket for majority of people but lets not assume op is the majority.

After reading all the posts I've come to a conclusion.

Gf sold the jacket because she knows she will get a new one from you. She is 700$ richer and gets a new coat out of it. Dont look on kijiji or Craig's list because it will suck when you go to meet up to see if its the jacket when its really your girl selling it. Will make the situation tougher for you and awkward for her.

Long story short, should've paid the cabby.

OP In all seriousness, sorry to hear that your GF lost her jacket.

I would feel sick to my stomach too. I hope you get it back, but you have a better chance of winning the next powerball lottery.

Actually he does have a better chance of getting the jacket back.

To win the Powerball lottery the odds are 1 in 175 million (175,223,510 to be exact).

Now, it is safe to assume the manufacturer only made a few thousand of those coats. Or perhaps they made millions, tbd.

So, unless airline travel is involved, the geographic area covered for the scene of the crime is southern Ontario.

If he was to visit each and every woman in the region and rip their jacket off and run off into the night he would eventually come across the missing one.

Timing is key here.

You are not counting the possibility that the jacket is in pieces in a container on it's way to China and/or the entire eastern orient.

I'd stick with the powerball odds. At least if he wins, he can legitimately claim a prize.

Did she also leave her Cell phone inside her jacket? since she felt it was safe to leave the jacket I wonder what other things that she "really cared about" were also left in a public place unattended? did she leave her wallet? probably not because she figure someone would steal her adored wallet and cell phone, the jacket in the other hand mehh.. She didn't pay for it, she didn't have to work hrs for it, so who cares, sucker will give her another one

And here you are putting the work into trying to find her jacket when she could not even be bothered to coatcheck it - Men are fools
