Darwin at work yet again!

lol, oh man, thats just sad... and stupid

Thats so sad, but at the same time i can't get over this quote “The family asks the municipal council of Rawdon to work on putting in place stronger security measures to avoid any future tragedies.” What does the family want, a fence? Sign? Sorry to say but you cannot prevent something like this, people have brains for a reason.

A couple of things don't ring true with this story. One, a wet dress while heavy on land wouldn't be heavy in the water. It's water in water. As part of my water rescue training we had to wear heavy clothes in the water and it didn't affect our buoyancy. It made it harder to swim and climbing the ladder out of the pool was interesting but in the water, no one sank to the bottom. Second, why didn't anyone jump in and help her out?

I don't have any kind of specialized water training, but maybe the running water caught and collected in the dress and pulled her into the water. So maybe it was not so much sinking, as it was being pulled along the river. Who knows, she could've bumped her head on a rock or something, and wasn't able to swim once she reached the pool of water.

Anyone else read about this story? Yet again another example of a family in mourning, who refuse to believe the victim was just dumb enough to be the master of her own fate.

IMHO.
I was about to say that, but I would've been flamed

Yep, measures like putting a fence so they can spoil it for everyone who wants to enjoy it. The truth is everytime I go out there, I see so much idiot signs around and inconveniences just because some idiot would do the dumbest thing. Causes inconvenience for 1000's of ppl everyday

I know this is going to sound really bad and i'll probably get flame for it, but why we people have to pay the price for someone's stupidity? ... I'm telling you fashion and staying with the "hot" and "what everyone is doing" is just plain stupid. If you are going to do something stupid and die in the process, the least you can do is be original about it.

We live in a society where every tragedy is deemed preventable, and someone else is always somehow responsible. We just can't accept that people often make bad decisions that sometimes result in tragic consequences.

Typical knee jerk reaction from family members after a tragedy. As usual based entirely on heightened emotions rather than any sort of logical thought. I actually feel sorry for people like this. They want to be able to say that the person's death "meant something" and brought some sort of a flaw in the system to light which was than fixed and this change saved lives in the future. The truth is that this was just a stupid mistake, and it cost this person her life. She was an instrument of her own death. It's sad, and unfortunate but people need to accept it for what it is and remember/honour her and her life rather than turn this into a political issue just to make themselves feel better. It won't bring her back anyways. It's selfish.

Why don't they blame the people who made the dress? Makes as much sense as anything else.

Blame the husband asking her hand in marriage. Isn't it always the guy's fault? In fact I bet the photo shoot was his idea.

Maybe wedding dresses should carry Government health warnings. For so many reasons.

She refused to pay the bill??

Definitely not the best place to try swimming in a wedding dress. lmao

aircav.... if she was trained in water rescue she probably could have saved herself. just because you can save someone doesn't mean anyone else can.

Killed by her wedding dress? She'd probably still be alive if she was carrying a gun... just sayin.

 wonder if insurance will pay for the costs of the wedding, the dress, the party, the honey moon, etc.

I wasn't suggesting she could have saved herself. It was the statement that her dress got wet and pulled her to the bottom that I was reacting to.
