Biker wanted by police

What grounds did they have to impound the bike?!?! Absolutely no way they can prove it was THAT bike in the video!!! lol.

If he doesn't talk he'll never get charged. Especially nice the bike isn't in his name :)

Agreed.

Even a first year law student is going to have a field day defending this case.

Some of those cars were probably farther apart than they appear in the video. 300kph, is 83 metres per second. The guy is covering nearly a the better part of a football field every second, so while it appears to be lane splitting (and in some cases it is) in some cases he is just moving quickly enough that that a 20m gap large enough to move into with a car is being covered in .25 seconds, or assuming the cars are moving at 100kph, so a differential of 55m/s, he's going by that in less than half a second.

Still an idiot

That doesn't make it any safer. All that means is that as far as those cars are concerned they have enough space to make a lane change. With the closing speed of that bike they'll never see him and he'll never stop in time if they do change lanes.

ok so they go on the net, find a video, get an IP, go to the address, find a r1, take a picture of it, matches it to the video, and they DON"T have probable cause that this is the same bike?

really????

Whether the rider is getting charged or not is one thing, but they aren't doing anything wrong in impounding the bike.

Based on the CBC video ^ they can definitely ID the bike based on comparing the dash against photos. Wouldn't be able to ID the rider, but I'm interested in seeing what happens. This will definitely stop a lot of Youtube videos of rides.

Ha. Guys Mother owns the bike.

Curious, can they indefinitely hold the bike without charging anyone?

listening to the CBC report the police there made a statement that they are trying to impound it and get it forfeited.

What is totally unique about that guys dash that would identify it as 100% his bike??? Looks pretty damn stock to me! If he had 20 hello kitty stickers on his speedo, yes, then I could see it as "beyond a reasonable doubt", but c'mon. Lets look up how many 2004-2006 R1's there are in Vancouver/BC/Canada and then file a search warrant for each one so we can check the ODO and compare the suspention settings :)

They identified 5 unique marks on the bike from the video and from one they found on the street. They impounded the bike last weekend.
Watch the CBC videos.

Yeah, I guess he wasn't the internet ninja the experts here thought he would be. Unlicensed and riding his Mom's bike? Priceless.

Ohhh tricky :) I'm not at home and on a limited bandwidth connection so I've been keeping the video watching to a minimum. I was at the hospital visiting my friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjNqY9ENVkM

Very nice catch.
Nah, it is pure propaganda, the charges will never hold, she didn't ride the bike.

Not only they won't get any criminal charges, they won't even get her on the 3tickets with half decent lawyer

Big press conference and they basically got nothing once it goes down to courts

well it depends if you are talking about charging the rider or the forfeiture.

Charges will be tough ( and its gonna depend on other evidence that they manage to find),
but the forfeiture... it looks like they have enough to get a good shot.

Here is a summary of the law in that area (not legal advice of course)

I won't elaborate too much ( plead the 5th) - but the civil forfeiture laws actually have a lot of teeth. ( not saying they are right or wrong, just that they are effective)

If they guy who was riding the bike in the video keeps his mouth shut and doesn't speak another word about this then he's likely not going to get charged criminally. 27 driving infractions though? Holy WTF lol
