WTF! Simcoe Street Parking has GONE! Cycle lanes instead...!

Yup. Downtown cyclists largely see themselves as the chosen ones, entitled to do whatever they want and to hell with the rest of the mere mortals. I work at Yonge and College and the city planted trees in front of the new condo tower, Aura. Poor things were barely in the ground before cyclists started locking their bikes to them and the saplings suffered damage. Spoiled little whiners argued that they wanted front door parking; apparently the bike stands all around (including across the street) were too far away for these champions of health and Mother Earth.Wish the cops would start charging some of these self-important little pr*cks for riding on the sidewalks, weaving in and out, blowing stop signs and lights. HTA172 should be applied!
I've seen small signs on some of the trees in the city indicating locking a bike to the tree will be bad for it (maybe that was on simcoe/King?) .When I used to ride my bicycle a few years ago to work (along the danforth/bloor) I would actually get into arguments with some of these types. oh, and when these pricks ring their bell constantly at me without saying "excuse me " when riding on the side walk, a good old kiwi **** OFF tends to work wonders. Will be interesting to see how the usage of Simcoe and Peter street goes in this pilot.

Anyway, this is how organised they were...http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=e3d1092e08dd5410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRDA few years ago when we heard about the Council to start charging for motorcycle/scooter parking, I remember there was just a lack of interest in the riders from here. People were like "oh well... ". Motorcyclists wouldn't be able to organise a thing in this city. see this thread.. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...mmended-without-Notice-or-Public-Consultation

That just goes to show the ignorant attitude these types of people have.
Glad I don't ride downtown.

If you don't ride downtown, why in heaven's name are you whining about this? Why did you post in the first place?

If you don't ride downtown, you don't need to park downtown, right?

$400,000? Expensive paint. Did they commission Banksy to draw the lines?

And not one nickel was contributed directly from any cyclist.

Bicycle lanes have been directly affecting car traffic for the past several years. Drivers can no longer turn right on red at all the intersections with the bike boxes at the front because stopped vehicle traffic is set too far back for clear sightlines to see cross traffic. So traffic flow is now impeded by bicycle waiting areas that no one uses.

no not really, I just hate everyone one, pedestrians, cagers, cyclists and even motorcycle riders who have this "entitled" attitude. I've come across them all.. pedestrians that cross against the lights when they want to, cagers who need to use their phones all the time, cyclists riding on the sidewalk, blowing red lights etc, motorcycle riders lane splitting or revving their pipes for no reason... lots of idiots.. but of all these groups, the cyclists seem have the higher percentage of these types

So you hate everyone who breaks the rules. Have you thought of a career in law enforcement?
:p

yep, but In NZ you should have seen the size of the Polynesians you'd have to deal with (Police in NZ dont carry guns so you have to be good with hand to hand combat/takedowns.. ) needless to say I'd be ****** off at the LEO's here - too short and fat for my liking ;-) I'd hate them too! lol!

I'm complaining about the *waste of money* in my opinion a bike lane is on Simcoe street. On Richmond street it makes sense. Theres a good part of the city's $$ going into these projects, I pay my taxes, just like everyone else. I hate seening wasted projects. I see they are doing Peter street as well. Didnt need to do both streets.

Someone should overspray those bicycle icon signs into motorcycle icon signs. All of a sudden a 'motorcycle' lane !
I honestly feel we should be allowed to use them below a certain speed. As long as you don't ram them it should be fine.

Most of the time I see cyclists they aren't even using the bike lane (assuming there is one). Or they are but they're going in the wrong direction. And making a right on red is nearly impossible with cyclists around because they don't know/care what the rules are and will pass you on the right mid turn.

Cyclists don't have jobs?

Maybe they do have jobs in Toronto, but maybe they live in Hamilton, Kitchener, Barrie, Peterborough, and they don't pay Toronto property taxes???

:p - j/k

Listen, if they are cycling downtown is 'cause they are locals. These people don't come everyday riding the bike from the 905 area... more likely than not, they are tax-paying Torontonians, and if they decided to build themselves some bicycle lanes, they have the right to do so.

I do get annoyed by cyclists when driving a car, but it's mostly because Toronto was not well thought-out for them. Montreal did it right.

Anyhoo, cyclists > cab drivers.

I don't have aggressive tendencies but I do get the urge to kick a cabbie's side mirror several times a week. ******* lunatics.

I wish there was a better way to complain about them. There is a taxi complaint email but having their cab number, plate, or whatever, isn't good enough. You have to know who the driver was because one cab can have several drivers. Although I would think they'd be able to figure out who was driving it when but unfortunately that info comes from the cab company, not the city. They can revoke one guy's cab license but can't revoke the whole car. Or at least that's what I was told by the nice city guy that called me after I submitted a complaint via email once.

He also said it's actually very rare for someone to complain about a cab that wasn't a passenger/customer of the cab. I think more of you need to do more complaining.

Ding ding ding! I bet you most people complaining about this parking commute into the city from the 905 and don't actually contribute tax dollars to this project. There are some North/Sound bicycle friendly paths that are necessary. There are way more east/west ones right now and it's just not realistic, people need to travel north/south as well. I'm not sure how having two sets of bicycles lanes (running north/south) on an otherwise one-way street will work, but I guess we'll see.

As an aside, the city held a public consultation regarding this last year for a few days. I went to Metro Hall looked at the plans, provided some feedback. Everyone else had that opportunity too.

The reality is that there are entitled and ignorant road users period. I'm sure we all see that with car drivers, taxi drivers, bicyclists, and yes, many riders as well.
