Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

i do private training at Robinsons gracie jiu jitsu in newmarket. i can set you up to come in if you want to take class or private with me. how long have you trained?

I wrestled competitively through university. I just have dabbled in jiu jitsu on the side.

EDIT:

Is that the one that's just off of Davis Drive by the way?

Also I don't really wanna do a class, maybe just a 1-1 for an hour or so get the heart rate up. I just like to roll and freestyle if you know what I mean.

Lol I think I got a hemerrhoid from working out. Has that ever happened to you guys? Doctor says to take a break from the gym for 2 weeks :( I'm considering just going easy on legs & ab workouts until it heals up/goes away. What a disappointment, though

They moved to Gorham drive recently. they wont just let you drop in you have to pay for a class or take a private. Then you can roll one on one. If you dont want that and If you have somewhere else to go with mats I'm in.

Took 4 days off in a row, normally I only take Friday and Sunday off. Drank tons of beer, ate tons of bad food and lost 5 pounds. How's that for screwed up genetics????

5 pounds isn't enough loss or gain to judge though. My weight swings maybe 7 or 8 pounds at different times in the day. I may wake up 5 or 6lbs lighter than the day before for no reason. I think that has more to do with type of food consumed, sodium content and other things like diuretics etc.

As far as the rolling, I live in Milton, was going to sign up at the local jiu jitsu gym, I went there a couple times for a free drop in, but I need to chat with them to see if they just allow drop in rolling sessions. Only reason I didn't sign up originally was because they focus way too much on striking, I hate that ****.

But if you are down to come to Milton, I'll PM you maybe letting you know when/if we can. I thought your private gym would be more lenient on that, most martial arts schools encourage drop ins, that's where you learn different things and introduce some tricks you haven't seen before. It's like the martial arts version of cross pollination.

Meh... I lost weight this weekend too. But, I suppose with a friday night romp, all day saturday motocross practice in the heat, sunday racing in the heat (I don't eat much on ride days and only 100% healthy when I do eat at the track) and spent monday out on the street bike...
Had one beer all weekend, everything else I drank was about 5 or 6 liters of water.

No one wants drop ins ask and see. You dont want some clown showing up and breaking your arm in an armbar , trying to knock you out or choking you unconcious because he thinks he's in the UfC when it's just training. That's the issue. Why don't you like striking???? I trained private and sparred with Royce Gracie last week. Not just anyone could do that again because some clown might try to punch him in the face or break his arm when he gives you the arm bar for training

I've been to more than 10 different gyms in 5 different cities for just drop in. I hate striking, because I don't like being punched in the face. Ya of course there idiots that show up like that. But when you are "dropping in" as a friend of a member it's different. There is respect there.

Yes but I don't know you so i cant vouch for you or I would .

high intensity to me is olympic lifts or zerchers. multiple sets with heavy weight, jiu jitsu non stop for an hour one on one, muay thai one on one pad and ring work non stop for an hour, hill sprints, sledge hammer smashing a tire, anything like that. i doubt your workouts would kick my *** but invite me and i will try, then you can try mine

Brah, I seriously want to rage reading your posts. I get it, your workouts are tougher than anyone else's, you are more fit than anyone else, and you are better than everyone else. On the other hand, these bodybuilders that supposedly think exactly the same as you according to you, and think they are the most fit, are all wrong and idiots. Textbook hypocrisy right there.

My boss right now is in his 40's and runs triathlons, the guy runs 40K home from work, which is pretty much a full marathon, about once a week on top of biking, additinoal running, etc. The guy would eat both, me AND you for breakfast at an endurance event (and don't give me some bs how you'd hold your own, you'd get your *** DESTROYED and you know it), if he stepped into the gym with me though my workouts would criple him. I probably lift 5+ times more than him and weight twice as much despite being leaner. So who's workouts are more "intense"? Who's "more fit?" The answer is who gives a ****. We are both fit and train for, and therefore are better at, different things. I'm sure you'd kick both of our ***** at MMA, I'm not even gonna try to deny that but please, get this holier than though attitue out of here. There are some bodybuilding workouts that would kick your ***, when I do a 5x5 powerlifting routine it feels like a vacation compared to my usual workouts.

If I wasn't about 5000Km away right now in Sydney, Australia I would call you out and show you at the gym. In a month when I'm back, get your depends ready, buddy.

5 x 5 powerlifting routines are awesome or whatever you want to do is great. I'm in. Don't get upset I just said lets try each others workouts.
You are right a marathoner would show up and be killed by a powerlifting workout and vice versa. I do many different kinds of trainng including powerlifting Olympic lifts so I'm ready to go it isn't new. When you get back invite me and I'm there. I'll bring the depends you bring the barf bucket

Wow, this went a bit tits up didn't it?

Anyhoo, exercise bike/cycling question. I just bought a recumbent bike and want to know about seat position. Should my legs be at full extension when the pedal is at the bottom of its stroke or should there still be some bend in the knee? I'm thinking the latter because a full extension involves a certain jarring on the knee. And I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary wear on my knees.

Just like on any other bike, at full extension you need to have that slight bend. If not, you're just looking to hyperextend your knee.

What rrmedic said..some bend is still necessary. I actually don't like recumbents if you're concerned about wear and tear. They give you a backrest and promote you to use more power and less spinning. And too much bend is as bad as not enough.

The witch doctor I'm seeing recommended a recumbant against an upright because of back issues I have. When you get to 48 and are trying to stay healthy I find everything is a compromise somewhere along the line.

Thanks for reinforcing what I guessed was right. Better to be sure.

Ahh..well, if the back is worse, I understand your choice! :) And I'm with ya on the compromises! Old age sux.. On the plus side, recumbents are much more efficient if you're actually going someplace..

Nah, nerve root compression, so I've been off it since like October. I'm gonna be getting surgery to remove the two disc protrusions and then I gotta figure out a rehab plan for myself. Figured alot of treadmill walking to sort out my body listing to one side, but that's where my plans end. I also have a bowflex SE, so if anyone has some low impact ideas I can use to get back on track it would be most appreciated

Swimming/water aerobics if you feel comfortable doing that and if you go to a gym or have access to a pool.

http://vimeo.com/42209600 Now this is motivaton

LOL, but hey, at least they're doing something.

5% on the other hand, sure I would say there is like <0.5% of the population that can achieve and maintain that on the regular.

Am I special then? :p and a side note *0-5% is also dangerous, brain function can go to 5hit etc 5-8%bf - usually seen in elite athletes 8-12% fit population 12-15% healthy population

what are the side effects of growing up with 5-8% bf for half of your life.
