I had this attempted on me one night when I came over to a new gfs house... Back fired on dad as I recognized exactly what gun that was in pieces on the kitchen table and we ended up talking for an hour about guns and hunting before I was dragged down stairs to "watch a movie" by his daughter... He thought I was a good guy lol

Doesn't mean you can't have a decent girlfriend. Just make sure she has her own place in a city outside where you live and play the "i don't know where this career will lead me so marriage is something I won't get into until I'm retired' card.

Oh yea, to keep with the theme of this thread........ the only thing I want to see get bigger on my GF is her income :)

lol at least you can back up what I'm saying so it's not viewed as a pessimistic version of how it is up there...
I've dated two girls from there and guess what? They EACH had a kid.
Generally, all the girls I date are from Ottawa just to avoid the local trash.

Ah well, I'm in Borden for the next few months so I get to play around in the GTA for a little while!

I can see it now "you have a glock 17? nice, i have two of those, a beretta and a 1911 that's been modified for ipsec, i can hit 5 moving targets in under 2 seconds flat, and keep a mini14 in the truck for varmits".

My exes pops was a hunting nut. Dude LOVED me (as did the rest of the family). I even helped him carry the GIANT fridge sized safe he bought for his guns up a flight of stairs. Her brother did skeet shooting competitions and sHe had a gun license too!

I'm lucky I'm still alive! :p

I have a 22yr old daughter and its pretty funny to watch her rip on her boyfriends butt for looking like he ironed his shirt with a hot rock and needs to step away form the cheeseburger. (shes 6' tall and 105lbs) (no you cant meet her) (no you cant see pictures). Some girls need to train men. Dopey girls that dont understand fat drunk and stupid is exactly how we get through life for our first 30 yrs.

Any suitors thats visited the house can tell right away that the people that live here like guns, motorsports and sailboats. They dont need to be afraid of anything, except the daughter and maybe her mom.

My wife and i set the ground rules in our relationship very early on. If its the weekend and I can go race sailboats or sit on the couch and watch a movie, I go racing. If she wants to go out for dinner with the girls on friday nite, GO. I get the remote and beer and alone time. Its not our job to amuse each other, but doing things together is great fun and we love it, it doesnt mean we cant do stuff on our own at all. Spending every hour together is the kiss of death IMHO, dont want to watch the same shows? that not a fight, thats a $300 problem, get another damn TV.
Going TV shopping is mans work and should be embraced. That doesnt mean she cant circle good prospects in the flyers and make you a sandwich before you head out, and skip a trip to the hairstylist so you can afford the upgrade to HD. Once hockey starts in HD who cares what color her hair is. As long as she keeps it pinned back so its not in the way while your getting polished while watching hockey on your new HD TV.

I've been married for 25yrs......... nobody more surprised than me.......

I fully believe that you and your significant other need your own lives sometimes. Being together, doing stuff together, having common interests is great but so is having something that lets you get away. There needs to be a good balance of both.

One friend of mine hasn't had any really serious relationships in the whole time i've known her (almost 10 years now) but she's in one now. They've been dating pretty seriously for almost a year and she went from 27 years old to 65 in about a month. She never comes out anymore, never calls any of us up to go see a movie or grab a beer on a nice sunny patio and typically will not do anything without him. I'm actually pretty disappointed with the whole thing. We've joked in the past that whatever guy she did end up with would have to be very understanding and occasionally he'd be told to "stay home and take care of the kids, i'm goin out with the boys tonight" but so far that seems to have been inaccurate.

Le sigh.
 
Ahhh you old fogies make good points.

I'm still in the dating game and find patience is key to coming out on top, that and knowing I was just as happy being single as I can be in a relationship. I don't remind her all the time but make sure she's aware I'm willing to bounce if things are not working out.
