Why Android is better than iPhone.

[h=1]Apple’s 2012 profit crushed the combined profits of Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay[/h]
There’s a lot of Apple hate going on in the comments section of our website (sometimes justified, sometimes not as much), but if there’s one thing fanboys, Android enthusiasts and neutral tech lovers can’t deny is Cupertino’s ability of turning everything it touches into gold.
We’ve grown accustomed to hearing about Apple’s record profits or groundbreaking sales numbers, not to mention the insane margins other companies can’t even dream of. Take the latest financial report, for Q4 FY2012 (the period between July 1 and September 30).
Despite falling short of estimates, the iPhone makers raked in an outrageous $8.2 billion in net profits on $36 billion revenue. And that was with the iPhone 5 released days before the end of the fiscal quarter or unreleased in many countries.
If we put those results into perspective, we get an even more impressive picture of Apple’s financial state. That is of a company who just wrapped up its fiscal year with a record profit of $41.7 billion on $156.5 billion revenue.

[h=1]iPhone 5 sales stronger than Android sales in U.S., new research shows[/h]A new research note reveals that Apple’s iPhone 5 sales helped the company overtake Google when it comes to smartphone OS marketshare in the U.S., for the 12-week period ending on October 28, 2012.

And then there are the people in TV that make it look like they are using Macbooks, but are really using PC's.

:laughing3:

It's understandable from a money pinching point of view. Macbooks are considered premium products, there is zero question here. As a news organization, they want to give off the impression that they are using high end stuff, not watching every dollar they spend.

More bad news for Apple, their apparently coming $200 iPhone can't come soon enough

APPLE FAILS TO DELIVER ‘KNOCK-OUT PUNCH’ AS IPAD SHARE SINKS TO LOWEST POINT SINCE 2010

Apple NEEDs TO STOP THE ANDROID SLAUGHTER!

:laughing3:

I doubt Apple would release a $200 phone, it's not their game. Apple makes premium luxury products, not budget products.

People doubted that they would make a smaller, cheaper ipad.

Sans retina, it would hardly qualify as a "premium luxury" product.

Specs alone do not make a premium product. A Corvette ZR-1 is about as fast or faster than a Ferrari 458 on paper, the Ferrari costs 2.5 times the Vette, which one is the premium product?

Using your analogy, the ipad mini is like a paying 2.5 times for a Ferrari which has 14 inch rims and all season tires. Good, but not great.

In that case, I'd rather take the Corvette.

Anybody have a used android phone to give/sell cheap?

Holiday season + broken phone display (dropped it hard) dont go well hand in hand :(

I have an unlocked Wildfire S, $50 and it's yours

You're missing the point, it's not about specs or numbers, it's about the experience. Look at every single iPad mini review, they all say about the same thing; would like a retina display, but this is still the best 7" tablet on the market. The retina display really only becomes a factor if you read a lot, that's why I would never get a non-retina mini as my iPad is my sole ebook/magazine reader. If you're not reading small text, the non-retina display works just fine for most people.

ouch, should have bought an iPhone... mine fell out of my tank bag as I was in the passing lane on the 401. hit my knee and bounced a few times, pulled over and i was amazed that it was in pristine condition... and it's not like it was in an otter box, i have a dollar store case on it and it survived the 401 at out side of toronto speeds...

Yeah i hear you.. it already fell once or twice but on the side. No damage done.

That time it faceplanted on small rocks . My phone didnt like that lol. Most phones faceplanting from over 4 feet tend to crack from what ive seen in drop tests (that unfortunately cant be used as empirical evidence)

I was pulling the GS3 out of my pocket and I started trying catching the thing as I realized that I was dropping it to pavement (no case at all). Instead of catching or even slowing the impact, I pretty much accidentally smashed it, and it was laying on the screen after some sliding. Not even scratches on the screen, but the back case is scratched up, which is $25 to replace.

Only in the eyes of those drunk on the iKoolaid. Who need to overpay to justify their "premium luxury" product.

Google Nexus 7-- Still the best small tablet

"Since the debut of the Nexus 7, we've seen the release of three major small tablets: the Kindle Fire HD, the iPad Mini, and the Nook HD. However, thanks to its low price, great battery life, sharp screen, and complete and open Android 4.2 environment, overall, the Nexus 7 is still the best small tablet you can buy."

There will never ever be a definitive right or wrong answer to this. The reason, it comes down to personal preference. Specs for the most part are pretty meaningless these days. There are some differences obviously, but again preference. Someone may not need or even want whats in an android tablet, or in an ipad tablet. If it works for you, and does what you want it to do, then you have the best tablet on the market.

Nice that you are so concerned with how I spend, and other mac users, spend our money Sunny, its very touching and moving that you care so much.

[h=2]RIM loses in arbitration with Nokia, may have to pay royalties on BlackBerrys with WiFi[/h]

Nokia and RIM already have a troubled history whenever they come into contact, so it's no surprise that what truces they do have are fraying at the edges. Thanks to filings, we now know that RIM has lost a Swedish arbitration proceeding where it tried to extend a 2003 patent cross-licensing deal with Nokia to include WiFi devices; the wireless technology isn't covered, the arbitrator says, and RIM now has to either pay royalties worldwide or risk seeing its devices yanked from the market. Nokia isn't wasting any time pressuring the team in Waterloo into coughing up -- it's taking steps to enforce the decision in Canada, the UK and the US. RIM has so far turned down any comment, although it's more likely that their firm will cut a deal rather than risk a sweeping ban. Consider it another of the many hurdles for RIM to jump on the road to January 30th.

The Verge - "The iPad mini hasn't wrapped up the "cheapest tablet" market by any stretch of the imagination. But the "best small tablet" market? Consider it captured." (http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/30/3576178/apple-ipad-mini-review)

The Loop - "I went to a local big box retailer and used every tablet they had in the store, including the Asus Windows 8 tablet. The difference was immediately clear. The quality of these other tablets is so inferior to what Apple manufactures that they felt like plastic toys in your hands." (http://www.loopinsight.com/2012/10/30/review-ipad-mini/)

Techcrunch - "In fact, you can’t really even compare it to the Nexus 7 display, which is 216 pixels per inch. Text definitely renders sharper on that display than it does on the iPad mini. However, the overall display quality (brightness, contrast, color levels) of the iPad mini seems better than the Nexus 7."

"If you can get beyond that (and again, I can), it’s hard to find another fault with the iPad mini. When Apple claims that they’ve essentially taken an iPad 2 and put it in this new form factor, they’re not lying. That’s perhaps the most remarkable thing about this device. It’s an iPad 2 — a brilliant device in its own right, still — at a fraction of the size." (http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/30/ipad-mini-review/)

Engadget - "Regardless, the iPad mini is well worth considering for anybody currently in the market for a tablet. Its cost is compelling, its design superb and it of course gives access to the best selection of tablet-optimized apps on the market. To consider it just a cheap, tiny iPad is a disservice. This is, simply, a great tablet. " (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/30/apple-ipad-mini-review/)

Slashgear - "The iPad mini isn’t a cheap tablet in comparison to $199 Android-powered options, but it feels better in the hand, has a huge number of applications specifically intended for tablet use, and delivers what it promises to in a cohesive and predictable way." (http://www.slashgear.com/ipad-mini-review-apple-aims-for-the-everyman-30254875/)

That's a lot of respectable sites drinking the iKoolaid.
