Why Android is better than iPhone.

Samsung GPS is the worst in the biz, I wouldn't depend on that crap to find a province let alone a 5M location.

I don't get the hate for iTunes... I think its superb, been using it forever. It manages music perfectly well and the remote and library sharing features are awesome. I have one library in the house and can play it from any of my devices... and when friends come over they can easily connect to it on my wifi network too. Transfering music is about as effortless as I could possibly imagine something being. Maybe its not as good in Windows, but in OSX its superb.

I recently played a bit with a friend's galaxy nexus. Not as smooth as the iPhone stock iphone, but a lot better than an iphone with cydia stuff to improve the UI notifications and reminders. How's the GPS on it, especially with trees around? I read it has a barometer, which helps the gps. That's quite awesome.
They fixed that
New OS with what they call "project butter" is ridiculously smooth. 60 frames per second, thats just ridiculous

mmmmnaked how ive missed you, havent had any issue with navigating with my GPS, and i use it often. ive tried using tomtom gps AND my phones gps to compare. Phone gets the signal/satellites A LOT faster (as it uses wifi, gps and barometer)
I'll have to use it while hiking to see how well it works though.

iTunes just takes so much memory out of computers its ridiculous...i think Apple made it purposefully slower on non-mac products (gotta say my computer is hella slow) but the limited functionality of file/music transfers can be frustrating.

I have had about 4 Samsung phones (gave some away).
All from the Galaxy S series.

I NEVER had a problem with the GPS in any.
IT was fast. I also installed a update file and it locked on GPS in 5 seconds.
I have used mine in the woods with no issues either.

The Samsungs ROCK, you can install a better ROM too.
The best thing is NOT needing a pc to add music to your phone.
Apple binds you to itunes.

Android phone just copy and paste, done
You don't even need to connect to a pc to add files.
Since you hike, having the ability to add another battery easily might be a good thing for you too.

I don't get the hate for iTunes... <snip> blah blah blah blaaaaaaah

Apple. "70's technology"

:laughing3:

Google galaxy gps problems... lol 10 million results. Its well documented.

It really is amazing.. 2 year old design and its clearly, unequivocally, without excuse, the most elegant phone ever designed.

My god.. a sculpture of glass and aluminium, an industrial design marvel. See what I mean about luxury?

There is some seriously cool stuff we can do with custom ROMS.
I can get my battery to last for 3 days without recharging.

Make your decision, I am fairly knowledgeable about tech.
I don't shop by brand but by function and value.

I can make your head spin with all the things android can do...even VOIP calling built in.
I will admit that anything larger than a 4.5 screen does not fit easily into a guys front pocket.
The S2 is a good size along with the Infuse. The Infuse is a cool phone, it's like having a tablet in your pocket.
It is THIN and light too.

Anyways, I wont waste more time doing a hardware compare.
The Samsung and HTC top model phones are just insane.

iTunes is one awesome thing in this world we are living in, it brings a bunch of entertainment to us, not just music.
It can even create ringtones from your songs. But most people don't wanna find the time to learn to navigate thru it, to really enjoy such an application(with updates regularly).

Plus QuickTime!!!!

I will enjoy it for them.

No freezing, no crashes, no slowdowns, just smooth on Mac OSX.

My music is awesomely organized on my Mac, in iTunes....also with playlists.

When I had windows, music was everywhere.

Thank you iTunes.

Because you did not know what you were doing.

Android phones can play just about every format of music and video files.
Itunes, can not.

Dude, you must need things spoon fed to you in a Fisher Price interface.

I have a simple app that when I am in wifi range or bluetooth range of my laptop, my phone will auto synch without me touching anything.
Of course I can set what I want to synch.

Apple is VERY intrusive.

Look itunes might be great for some but I dont like it. Nothing's faster and more lightweight than transferring files and folders on a phone that's recognized as a flash disk.

precisely
connect the INDUSTRY STANDARD usb cable and whamo, there is your phone showing up as a drive, copy-paste-done
wifi direct is pretty cool too as well as bluetooth transfers.

OK all you phone geeks who claim YOUR phone can do anything. How do I do this;

I want to have a bunch of notes on my PC that I sync to my phone. I want to do this with bluetooth ideally, but cable will do. No cloud. This used to be standard with Palm OS but now... nothing. As far as I can tell.

So here's your chance to show me how great your iOS or Android or BB or WP7 is.

I know you said no cloud, but I use Evernote for this task. Pretty damn convenient as it will run on pretty much anything

Fastest thing i found is

otherwise between devices

As far as iTunes goes, I'm fairly neutral on it. It works, it does most of the things I want, and it works fairly well on a Mac. Windows a little worse, but not bad. I've tried some other music management software (MediaMonkey sticks out in my mind), itunes seems to work best for my needs

I can see why some people don't like it, especially those that just want to drop music onto a flash device. I'm not in that group so it works fine for me.

My Phone Explorer for Android runs on Windows PC.

I just use my gmail account and gtask. The power of google, my tasks/notes/docs/contacts always up to date.

Yup, with the cloud, limitless. I say all the apps you just named there (except for contacts) will prolly be all amalgamated to Google Drive and theyll call it a day.
For Google task app, i started using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwyLDEsImNoLnRlYW10YXNrcy50YXNrcy5wYWlkIl0.
(works better to sync same format as g-tasks)
And for a better on the go and prettier/sleeker format
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hbnlkbyJd
also syncs with g-tasks but not flawlessly like the other prev app does

And @fastar1, no problem!
