who's still riding? (in toronto)

Commute every day, 1.5 hrs each way and will be until there is snow on the ground, temperature is irrelevant - got good quality heated gear. I am very nice and warm when I ride :)

Thats the way to go! xD
Can't wait till my heated gloves come in for early spring riding. Longest I can go below 0 is about 30 mins before my hands freeze - I don't find my heated vest too helpful. Good thing everywhere I really need to go is about 30 mins or less away (without traffic).

Still commuting 30-40min each way. No heated gear but what I have keeps me warm. Very selective of the days I ride. Too much rain in the forecast with low temps and I take the car, very leery of poor grip on the road.

Wish I had a car for those days... and snow of course.

I'm still out and about cause I'm about that bike life. rotfl
Not about bike life, its about 200 a month in parking if i use my car, plus god knows how much for the 407, both free on the bike

Some of us don't just ride to timmies and have shinny bikes

My commute is only 15 minutes, but I'll be doing it until the bike is too cold to start. Same trip on transit is 45 minutes at least. Snowmobile gloves can handle anything, it's my feet that don't like the cold air.

Threshold is -5*C without heated gear. Commute is 50min on the 401. Pain from frozen hands is about 35min after peeling fingers from grips.

Was out today. A good multilayered bike coat and a pair of snowmobile gloves and I'm still good. My limits are 4-5 degrees, because below that you get too much of a chance of ice in shadowed areas. Had a spectacular wipeout in one of those years ago, not something I'd care to repeat.

Once there's any real salt on the road though, it's all over. I bicycle to work and locally all year round though - no TTC for me unless the weather is flat-out awful or the roads are totally loaded.

OH! FYI guys, there's been a water leak at the base of the ramp that goes NORTH onto Bayview, after you come off the DVP for weeks now. It covers the whole road at the bottom of that ramp, so once it gets a bit colder, there will be no way to get onto Bayview north from the DVP without riding over a pretty wide sheet of ice.

I just got home a bit ago. Doing highway speeds is indeed a wee bit brisk. Can't wait for my thermal glove liners and pinlock visor to get here!

Still commuting to Toronto from Brampton for school daily..... it's not bad layered up. Much rather prefer to endure 30 mins of cold and get free parking right in front of my lecture hall rather than have to spend an hour and half (and $10) ONE way to use the GO + TTC.

Day time temps are still above 10 degree mark...night time temps are still below freezing mark.

Bike to be stored as soon as any one of the above mentioned tempratures change.

I was hoping end of November but I was out drinking on that one!

I left Barrie at 7:15 Friday morning and the temperature dropped from a balmy 7c in Barrie to 2c while driving through Newmarket. I mounted a digital thermometer on bike recently, Im not sure its good that I know how cold its getting. My weekly commuting might end soon but I will hit the trails on the weekend until the snow flies and they close them.

What kind of thermometer are you using? Keep on meaning to put one on my bike as well.

What kind of temperature on the tires are considered 'warmed up'??

Last time my tires were cold and the parking lot was slippery I actually fell over when I was leaning making a turn.

Does the temp of tires really help? Not sure if I should buy one of those tire warmers

Anyway, I have heated gloves, but I've only used it once... 5-6 degrees is still ok, my commute isnt long so is kinda a waste to buy the gloves. Heated vest... never needed, body feel so warm with wool underwear, but pants I really need a thick one, jeans are too cold especially the knees area.

Anyone know of good pair of pants that is good for cold weather??

Oh for gods sake. If you need to get warmer cheap, get long johns. Even the ones from Joe will be fine. Costco sells ones with a merino blend. I only have the Joe ones which are poly-spandex, $8-10 maybe. Then, under your jacket have a fleece top (varies). Around your neck have a fleece neck gaiter. It's about $7 from MEC.

Your rain gear like the Horny Toadz is another layer of warmth in a pinch because they are also wind stoppers and you can wear them on your legs. You need the rain gear anyway.

Just bought my first bike two weeks ago so I'm trying to get in as much riding as possible. Rode yesterday evening to Hamilton and back to Toronto after midnight. Bundled up with long johns and a few layers underneath as well as a Dainese balaclava. Only thing that suffered were my hands. Gotta get winter gloves!
