who's still riding? (in toronto)

I find the best gadget on a bike is actually a voltmeter, if you like to see temperature as well, get those multifunction voltmeter, like 12 bucks on ebay, has two temp sensor in and outside, clock and voltmeter... works really good.

our bikes are prone to lose charge at some point, either charging system goes bad or the battery isn't charging, it's always good to know the instant voltage so you have time to prepare yourself and not get stranded like i did last time on 401

I've seen those. How do you waterproof/mount it? Where do you put the temp sensor?

I've been giving the voltmeter idea some thought, especially as I'm on a smaller bike (Ninja 300), and I'm not sure what to expect in terms of battery drain from heated gear.

Yeah I ride a lot. Commuting, weekend rides, trips, etc.

My 2006 DL650 V-Strom has over 202,000 km on it. I basically retired it when I bought the 2012, it is still licensed and insured but I haven't ridden it in a while.

its a great inspiration to ride as doing that many kms on 2012 bike is incredible. you must have practicaly lived on your bike. keep up the good work.

Im fortunate that I commute on my bike and have a wife that loves riding and also has her own bike. We ride almost every weekenD N
d have done a few riding trips as well. I also don't hesitate to go on side trips. I left work at 8 pm this eve and instead of the 80 km ride home I did a side trip errand and ended up doing about 120 km. Not a biggy but nice just the same.

I love riding!

I use black vinyl tape to cover the buttons and any gaps, i think it looks better with the tape than without it, like a cleaner look. I tried to use clear silicone to seal it like those u use for windows but it didnt look good. The inside temp sensor sits inside the voltmeter and the outside sensor i stick it in the front fairing facing the wind so i know the windchill temp.

The 300 has much more spare wattage to be used for accessories in comparison with ninja 250. I forgot exactly how much 300 has, but the 250 has about 100 watt average of extra wattage left from the stator output. U can expect quite a lot more output from the 300. You can install the voltmeter from the license plate light, just so if you burn the fuse its only the license light gets affected

Thanks for the tip. I've yet to find any information on the 300's spare power capacity. I've actually been carrying a full sized voltmeter in my backpack!

The Ninja 300 charging system has a rated output of 294 watts (21 Amps at 14 volts, when RPM's are at least 5000 RPM, according to the service manual (page 1-11). The Ninja 250 charging system was rated at 266 watts (19 Amps at 14 volts, same RPM). So expect a little more only...

If i were ill just get a voltmeter and monitors the voltage, and adjust the heat setting when needed

Thanks. I thought you were talking about an oil temp sensor, which is what I'd like to add. I found one last night made by Motosens - the sensor is part of a replacement drain plug.

Looks like I'll also get their voltmeter.

If you don't mind spending the money and would like to be able to tell Voltage, Current draw and temperature, the a Kisan Chargeguard is a great unit. I have one on my 2006 V-Strom and it has worked wonderfully. I mainly wanted a thermometer and went through about 4 other types of thermometers with differnt levels of success before getting that one.

I saw someone commuting on the 407 this AM. They were westbound in the Baview to Bathurst area. I was quite a ways behind so couldn't see what kidn of bike and I am sure they didn't see me. I was pleasantly surprised to see someone else riding.. I haven't seen an other bikes for a couple of weeks or so.

Today has been the best day to ride so far this week. Was able to ride 2 hours with feeling in my hands still AND I was able to go and wash my bike today :)

Saturday is looking nice for the weekend! I'm planning on going to the cottage this weekend to clean up the leaves and yard...think the wife might just need to take the car solo this weekend and I'll enjoy the sunshine on the bike.
