who's still riding? (in toronto)

had a few pellets of snow drop on my bike this morning, but an hour later when I left, nothing. Lets see what the ride home will be like...

Ice pellets today on my way home at around 5:30pm, took it super easy on every turn coming home.
...

A couple of years ago I got caught in some weather on my old bike:

Rode this morning, 7am and it was -5 with windchill, i could not feel my hands when i got to school and was having trouble holding the clutch in. lol but today is the last day for my riding season! :(

saw a few flakes when i first set out from pickering but then nothing but the dark forboding sky. i think it is gone now and it is sunny.

the time change is throwing me off, last week it was dark in the morning with sme sun left in the evening. and now I leave in the light and go home in the dark. would rather it the old way as I liked the afternoon warmth.

The Wind Chill given in weather reports it is irrelevant on a bike except when yo uare sitting on your bike at a Timmies with no gloves on. We create our own wind chill and it is way worse than what the weather says.

Really, staying comfy in cold weather is all about gear. If you don't have it don't ride.

yep...wind chill at 130km/h is a lot different from standing around.

+1 if you can not safely operate your bike, do not ride. We don't have much protection to begin with. Cheap grip heaters are a big plus....especially with added wind deflectors or bar muffs.

That is why i've decided to hang it up early for the season. I find it unsafe for me now to ride in these sub 5 degree mornings. Not due to tires or anything but my hands get cold really quickly! To a point where it gets painful when even switching on the turn signals.

And regarding the windchill, I read somewhere that going 100km/h in 0 degrees is equivalent to -24 degrees or something like that? Unsure on the numbers but it's something to that effect.

I rode this AM, next week looks ok so we're still good.

I prefer the morning light rather than night because in part it helps dry the road and morning is when I'm in a bigger rush.

I do need more gear though, a bit ridiculous using Icon 29er gloves still. Those are supposed to be for summer heat waves LOL. I can get away with it because I am only doing 6 KM.

I just went for my last ride of the season today & man it was chilly on the highway, took my bike to GP Bikes for a few upgrades & storage...until spring time!

Umm, If you got the ones with a black sleeve over it (shrink wrap), just note that when the "grips" heat up, they start sliding like wet glue on rubber. Meaning, slowly but surely.
It works, but just be cautious cause eventually it will slide in a loop and the wires will as well around your throttle grip.

Oxford is well worth it, the quality is top notch.

It depends. I'd say if you're going to get the cheap $5 ones off e-bay, it only lasts AT MOST until early Spring iif you put it on top of your grips with the shrink wrap. I heard if you put it under your grips, you barely feel them and its also a ***** to do. If you put the heated grips on top, you're going to get sticky, slimey, glue on your grips when you remove it.

So basically, if you plan on getting a new bike in the next year or 2, get the cheap ones - otherwise get the higher quality heated grips.

Been riding almost daily. Looking at extended forecast and I should be good until early December. I purchased Gears Heated Gloves and Vest and I don't even feel the cold at 5 degrees. I felt it a bit last Sunday morning when it was -2 though.
