where do you guys get your tires from?

Yeah, no doubt. Nobody to blame but myself for that one. Lesson learned. Again, buy local.

Yamaha dealership charged me $15 each to mount and balance tires that I bought from canadasmotorcycle.ca

For future reference!

you know that is not the norm........

the dealership near me, quoted between 40 and 50 bucks per rim, and it did not matter that the old tires were already off the rims and rims off the bike....

you are lucky to get that price....

.

If I was a local tire vendor and someone came in to ask me to change tires I didn't sell I'd send them to another shop. Want to save $20 on a set of tires? Spend $30 on gas trying to find a deal to get them mounted.

There is no reason to refuse easy jobs and alienate your customer base. It takes 10 minutes to mount and balance 2 tires off vehicle. Most places charge 20-30 bucks a wheel so Zdeno's prices are crazy (allegedly).

People will always buy their own parts, like it or not. If you want to be succesful, you have to work with the market.

You convince them to buy from you by offering excellent service and competitive pricing not by telling them to take it elsewhere.

and if you did that... I would never go back to your shop for other things... It's stupid to turn back ANY customer.

Is it really a big deal? Tires are a product and mounting/balancing is a service.

I've paid for tire rotation and balancing service at Costco on tires that weren't bought at Costco.

On at least 1 occasion I have given my own oil to the dealership to put in the car instead of whatever they would have otherwise used (I had synthetic at the time).

Neither Costco or the dealership got upset about either the tires or the oil.

Maybe it is different for motorcycles?

You'd probably be the customer that says "xxxxxx store online sells it for this much, why are you $3.64 more?" So in that case it wouldn't bother me to watch you drive into the sunset.

It is different, those items can be bought almost anywhere that sells automotive parts and installed at one of 1000's of locations. Motorcycles are a niche market and there's only soo many local vendors. Support all the non-locals and what happens? They dissapear.

You are still supporting them by having them install your tires. However I don't like when they rip off people. Kahuna tried the same thing, overcharging for mounts. I started a thread few years back and they actually lowered prices after all the negative publicity they started getting.
I'm also quite positive that no one cares much if the price difference on rubber were a couple of bucks.

When you talk about Pete though, you're talking about a guy who helped us all by making local vendors drop their prices few years back. We were getting gouged. I'm talking about 50 bucks or more a tire vs him.

So yeah, support locals but I personally feel that Pete deserves some of the money pool too.

That may have been before you started riding so it's possible that you are not aware of the situation.

I agree with the sentiment of supporting local shops. However, I have a hard time believing that any real business person would turn down work because the client came in with their own parts. Take the job and educate the customer on why he/she should should buy their parts from you next time. Not only did you earn their business but now you stand a fair chance that they'll come back for more parts/services. Telling them to **** off won't get you anywhere.

Well you'd be wrong there.

Now that prices have come down (not on par with the US I know) and suppliers have let local vendors bring their prices down to compete with the online prices why not support your local shop? Not just their service side. I'm sure there's more then enough people in Petes area to buy his tires. I don't agree with charging people $120 to mount tires or $100 more per tire but times have changed and that's not the situation anymore (in almost all cases).

I don't own a shop or work in one so I can throw you out of my store anytime I want and for any reason I see fit! :)

If any local shop will match the price that Pete's is at, I will gladly shop locally.....

I even tried at the last Motorcycle Show and asked a couple of vendors there,,,,,,most were almost 100 bucks more, just for the tires......

My last set of tires came from two wheel in Guelph. Know why? It was barely more money for the tires and we're talking 40 bucks difference. They charged me I think 25 or 30 each to install and Tyler is very helpful. They earned my business from then on just because of that. Sure the odd thing I find online none of the dealers can beat but if I can help it I'll shop locally before ordering online.

I end up doing them myself. Two local shops are around $100 for a set if the rims are already off. If they supplied the price would be double of pete and an extra $50 for swap.

Cool Thanks guys. Diablo rosso corsa. I think I want these for this year.

Great Choice of tires i'm on my 2nd set and love them.

Just remember with most shops in the GTA they will charge a little more for installation because you dident buy from them.

A good alternative is remove the rims from your bike yourself and bring rims in with you to the shop for installation and balancing.

2nd set of DCR's as well, happy with them.

Ravensix; where in the 519 are you?

Buy my tires online & spooned them on myself. No need to discuss issues with anyone

Pete's has the best prices for tires around.
Like Cabosee said, many local shops will match and beat Petes prices, I don't understand why you would promote someone from Quebec instead of promoting the shops that are supporting us track side with their services and prices?

Have you seen Pete installing tires for us at SOAR late in the evening to ensure we are ready for our practice sessions the next day? I would think you as a racer, would promote the local guys specially if their prices are competitive to Pete's.

Street riders can also take advantage to the advice these local shops can give them guiding them thought their choices and sometimes save even more money by buying locally.

As others have stated, your best bet is to go to a local shop and see if they can match Pete's superbike for pricing. I bought my tires from Pete's, but Zdeno's charged me over $120 to mount and balance.
can you blame local stores for charging you full pop to install tires bought online somewhere else? I wouldn't blame them.

I agree with you however full pop and rip off are two different numbers. Not the first time it's been shown that zdenos uses the latter method of charging.

I agree with that, the local stores i deal with will not rip off customers but they will not be as willing to give you a deal to install your tires, that is why I said full pop.

120 bucks to install tires is crazy and don't get me started with the ****ing dyna beads
