when does every one stop riding??

Or could be a low temperature/dew point situation.

Hard core time tho the roads are still okay. I'm tempted on the weekend just to see how the warm gear really works in chilly weather..haven't been out below 6 in it yet. I suspect feet are the problem.

Nah. Following other's past suggestions on a barely faired-ex500:
- long jons, wool socks, gortex sport boots +levis 501 under max-airflow textile pants + chinese (cheap) thermal, hoodie, gortex textile jacket, neck gaiter + heated grips and holey-gauntlets = good for 0*c and a few degrees below.

Feet are fine for me. It's my hands, specifically fingers that get cold at lights when holding the clutch/brake levers. Highway is okay when the Oxford grips are at 75%. Might want to stop an hour in to wipe your nose though.

I'm fine everything but the top of the feet. What do think about wrapping the clutch lever in a cloth tape? I agree - the aluminum just sucks heat away.

Picked up the Paradox merino wool top and bottom from Costco today. $19.99 and $15.99 respectively

What boots do you have? Have you duct taped the vent holes, if any? I've never had problems with decent street boots and a good pair of socks.

The aluminum would have to suck heat through two thick layers of leather.

I'm likely better just riding in my hiking boots that have more room for layers than the Gaerne.

They are slim and fit pretty snug in the toes - even with good think wool socks it gets cool after 1/2 an hour on the Wee
The Burgman had foot and leg protection so was never an issue - Any rides I do now with be on the Burgman anyways so sort of a moot point.

I can definitely feel the chill of the aluminum through my cold weather gloves which are not thick - First Ascent - I have heated grips and hand guards - - it's just grabbing the bare alumium that sucks the heat.
But again - no clutch on th Burgman ( no hand guards but the windscreen protects from the wind anyway.

Kid is going to ride the Wee most of the winter when the roads permit - it's got square 50/50 Heidenaus on and hand guards and heated grips - the Scott jacket is fine...might need some foot gear but he only rides 20 minutes to work.

Saturday is cold but sunny so might take the Burgman for a spin - it's not been out much. See how the Scott jacket does at zero. Helmet and head are fine and pants ( long johns under jeans...my knee guards are warm and the coverage ends where the boots begin.

We'l see how busy it is....pretty grim all next week.

Are you fully grabbing the clutch the WHOLE time?? I can't comprehend how your hands can get so cold unless you ride suuuuper long at which point you'd probably be dripping snot first...seriously, no joke. I rode today for about a half hour, weather network said -1 in NORMAL Dainese gloves, yea my hands were cold but at no point was I feeling it excessively or because of the levers.

I laugh when I read these guys saying they needed heated gloves and grips at 10 degrees :lmao:.

They dont' get "so cold"
What I said was I could feel the cold of the aluminum levers..as someone else did..if you are riding 4 hours in the rain at 6 degrees it all counts but fortunately the Burgman has no clutch.

Local riding it's not a problem it's just annoying. The contrast against nicely warm hands on the heated grips and grabbing a cold clutch is simply annoying and it if a bit of tape would eliminate it it would be good.
I'll not be riding it as I'll take the Burgman from here on out.
Kid can deal with it.

Rode today, but that's not really worth any points. Just did some local stuff and it was clear and dry. Roads are fine for now but they might be a mess by next weekend.

At 10 deg c it is not necessary but when it gets down to 5 or less and you get a pair of heated gloves or grips, it will extend your riding season.

Agree with you.
My choice if I want to wear heated gear. Today was -6 with the wind chill. Great ride.

Out for a few hours this afternoon, though not as far as usual. Cold, but not too uncomfortable. 0° when I returned home. The Pinlock anti-fog insert is a most worthy addition this time of year. I never had to crack the visor once, not even when stopped for lengthy red lights.

Welp, packing it up this weekend. Draining carbs, fuel stabilizer, smart charger on the battery, covering her up with nice warm blankie, bike cover and goodnight until April. Ice on the roads now so reluctantly, it's over.

2 layers of electrical tape isn't really enough. Going to go for 4.
Maybe less of a deal if you are putting around all day in 1st and 2nd on a liter bike, but on a 500, rowing through 3-4 gears, then revmatching each one coming down, + long light at a red = cold finger tips.

No glove (no love) heater here, only oxford grips which is a bit hard keep fingertips warm.
