What's the RIGHT cruiser for me?

Hi guys,

I really appreciate if you share your experience with me on this!

So I'm into naked bikes and I like spirited twisty rides BUT since I live in Ontario, and we don't have a lot of twisty roads (and i like to go long distances) I decided to buy a cruiser!

I need a cruiser that is SPORTY! Something that's got the same characteristics of the Blvd M90... 150mm PLUS ground clearance... I don't care how comfortable it... It will be more comfortable than a naked sport bike ANYWAYS! so don't think comfortable.. think SPORTY! i want to be able to corner easily with it!

i also have the YAMAHA STRYKER in mind... it looks amazing but just don't know if it will cut it as a sporty cruiser!

I'd like to stay away from H-D and American made machines (no disrespect or hard feelings, just personal preference) HAVING SAID THAT, if there is an American choice that meets my requirements, I'd be happy to consider...

Don't forget; SPORTY, GROUND CLEARANCE, AGILITY

Please don't recommend VMAX (one of my dream bikes) V-ROD, DIAVEL and super muscle cruisers cause that's just not in the budget! But anything between 1300 - 1450cc is fine.

Please reply with your suggestions...

Your help is MUCH appreciated :)

Thanks.

The new hyperstrada looks like a cool naked touring/sporty bike. Not that expensive either.

I'm in the same boat more or less...had my Buell for a few years now and after 2hrs or so my legs cramp up. Time to move on anyways...the Buell has been awesome around towner..almost a shame to let go.
So I was considering a sporty cruiser also...the 012/13 Nightrod was my first want...the price scared me off and it seemed small too...plus the upgrades....things get stupid.
Then went to the show and seen the Victory line of bikes up close ...the first was the judge...pretty cool standard...but still kinda cramped. The Hammer 8 ball seemed like something I'd like...and still kinda do.

But weighing all the options and some peer pressure of sorts...I've again decided on HD...thought about a Dyna..fatbob...then a older 06 Streetglide. But my choice I believe will be this 09 Fatboy I've found. Ya I'm gonna be one of those dudes now...lol. Got a good price...HD's generally hold there value and you can find a dealer and a billion aftermarket parts/accessories anywhere in the free world.
Still liking the Hammer...and I know where I can get one reasonable. What to do? Good luck.

I love the M109.... might be pricey tho. M50 is a good option. Also the Honda VTX1300 (older now) is a great machine, or Honda Pantom (750 CC tho).

keep it coming guys! thanks :)

Why not a VFR or a sport touring bike? Seems like everything you want in a bike :)

true except they look like *****! sorry! it's either a nice lookin cruiser with a standard sportier riding position... or a naked. to be honest if i don't find what i want in cruiser land, my choice is the ER6N!

u consider the Hyperstrada a cruiser?

No i don't. I was just pointing out that since you like naked/sporty bikes and were looking for something more touring oriented then there is other options of just a cruiser.

I always found cruisers to be uncomfortable for long rides. My v-rod was so terrible in terms of long-distance riding (my fault, I set it up for looks instead of going the comfort route). Since, I've been under the assumption that the better a cruiser looks, the worse it's going to feel after a few hours.

I had an '02 VFR that I could ride for about 6 hours or so without much complaining. However, if you're into riding longer distances, a proper sport tourer like the ST, FJR, perhaps even the new Sprint GT (or whatever they call it these days) would be a great all-rounder. I found the V-Strom and similar bikes were also perfect for long distances, and great in the corners.

Good luck with your search!

Honda Shadow RS. Not the most powerful cruiser out there but fits what you're looking for in a sporty cruiser. Basically based on the HD 883 Sportster.

You think there isn't any twisty roads in Ontario easily accessible to you? You definitely need to get out more have a look in Bala, Muskoka, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Parry Sound. Yes you have about 1.5hrs of super slab each way but the rest of the day can be spent on nice scenic twisty roads.

As for your question about which cruiser maybe something in the Triumph (America, Rocket III, Speedmaster, Thunderbird) line? They tend to be a little more sporty then what most people think when someone says cruiser.

Yamaha: V-star 950, 1300 or Stryker
Suzuki: M90 - evidently the redesign fixed the fuel consumption and injection issues.
Kawasaki: VN900

I found when riding the M50's I was always wanting a little bit more. One more gear, 10 more horsepower.... never had that issue on the "bigger" bikes. The v-star 950 is technically in the same class as the M50, but it blows it out of the water so badly it's hard to compare. Keep in mind this is from actual riding experience mixed with personal opinion about how they "should" ride.

thanks for your suggestions.. but regarding "TWISTY ROADS" lol, you obviously have never ridden outside of Canada or Ontario... after doing the Swiss Alps last summer, came back to Canada and thought to myself: "WHAT THE **** AM I DOING RIDING A BIKE IN ONTARIO" trust me! twisties in ontario are NOTHING and i have been to all those places :)
