What was this about

Sad to say. but i think they were just screwing around. wanted to see what you would say or do.

if it really was a jacking they would have done so.

for them it was ***** and giggles.

I sense Naivete here.

Id start speaking french or creole to them and get out :)

But i say they possibly bet to see how much you'd piss/**** your pants and thought itd be funny (very stupid...but its men... what do you know?!)

or they really wanted to jump you...

In either cases you reacted well and good on you

OP did the absolute right thing....just continue about your buisness very good. I'm far too stupid and bull headed....never was one to back down or do the right thing. There might be 3 but one of them would be paying a hefty price for his actions. Good for you to do the right thing...never know what can happen.

Just to confirm details:

It was Saturday Aug 25th, morning?

- What mall? (intersection)
- Description of car these guys got out of?

Is there perhaps a coffee shop in this mall that would be worth popping in to? It sounds like just the sort of place to go and politely mind one's own business.

wow.. sounds like Edward Woodward !! ;-) (old tv reference for the young pups here)

Just wanted to add to this, if you have an alarm installed in your bike or car, don't for get about the panic button option to raise some noise/attention if you need to.

I like this a lot.

++++++++++

Did anyone mention the attempted bike jacking that happened last summer? IIRC, a rider was stopped at the lights and several thugs got out of their car and demanded his bike. I don't know how it ended.

I think you'd be surprised. I think it was the real deal and it just depended on how it went from the initial confrontation.

It sounds like an attempted mugging, and they were gauging:

a) Their own ballz to go through with it. If they met with no resistence they propably would have followed through

b) If you hand over your keys, they might have banked on a technicallity that you let them have it, rather than forcibly mugged or explicitly threatened.

I was mugged by this approach once, which then turned violent when they felt they could follow through with it. I had another friend mugged for smokes in a similar fashion. They were quite upset he lied to them about not having smokes and slashed up his face with a broken bottle. This technique of mugging allows a gradual build up of "bravery" on their part, rather than an all or nothing approach which may cause them to rethink before initiating. But once your "in the moment", their adrenaline can take over. If you shrink in that type of situation they will mug you! If you bend and had over your stuff without an explicit threat, they will likely not face severe penalties either.

My mugging started with: "nice hat, where did you get it? Nice shoes too, can I have them?". The minute I baulked at such a silly question, I noticed the group circle me and instantly their bravado was upped several notches. I was caught off guard by the instant ratcheting of severity, as well as out flanked before I even had time to realize I was now in the middle of a mugging.

This tactic allows them to get real close while leaving your defences low, or delayed.

You gotta be like Bourne in these situations. Every man is a potential threat, and you should be running exit scenarios. Three men get out of a car and approach you....that's an instant threat alert, and be mindful of the worst scenario and prepare your exit strategy.

The voice of experience. I'd listen to this. I've also experienced this. Two or three guys approaching and commenting on your jacket quickly becomes a demand for the jacket. How you react determines whether you walk away, you end up laying on the pavement or they end up running with you giving chase. I've been lucky with the results being them running but the difference between that and a knife in my kidneys was just luck and me going psychotic on them when they weren't expecting it.

So........ALWAYS go full retard is the best strategy?

You can always claim you "blacked out" and don't remember how their blood clogged the storm drain when you came to.

Alka-Seltzer tablet and vacant stares before you "snap" will also help. Also ramble in a just barely coherent delusional manner "noooo noooo noooo uncle", and that should get you off on a technicality later on when "repressed" memories become the buzz word at your trial.

Perhaps I am insane...or just missing something, but you were in full gear correct?

And you put on your helmet?

Am I the only person that thinks full gear = completely armed? Our gloves have plastic and sometimes metal on them and our helmets are made to survive impacts that would shatter our skull. Headbutting and brass knuckles come to mind lol

Now if they have a gun...err...I dunno, sad face =(

Investing in stab proof lining may be a wise choice for an armour upgrade! Soft armour can also stop 9mm rounds. It will bring a new hip factor to those ****** vests if they actually become ballistic / stab vests!

I don't know...I've never been scared of knives much, maybe it's because I carry one on me...as a tool of course

The term is psychotic, not "retard". I'm not afflicted with mental retardation. In fact, I'm measurably quite intelligent. I have been known to exhibit pyschotic behaviour however.

I think you missed my earlier post - avoidance is the best strategy. Running is second best.

My comments that you quoted were "do as I say, don't do as I do". I.e. I'm not suggesting it was a good idea, it was just what I did.

Tell me when u go on the next group ride, me and my boys would like a ride on your S1000RR

Don't know much about OP's stature.
There's a reason I run, weight lift, mtn bike to remain fit. If someone were to try mugging me, I won't give it to them that easy

You could just pull your Android 3G device, log into GTAM, and show them your avatar. I'm sure that would put the fear of God into them.
