What rifle should I buy?

Hey, I'll take any of that you dish out my way :D Anything to improve my shooting technique as I haven't had formal instruction. Still trying to internalize the "don't rush it, take your time" thingie

Simple practice.

When you fire, take up slack, pull slowly till it fires then only let the trigger out until it clicks (reset) then you are back at the end of the slack.

It takes a bit of practice but it makes it a lot smoother and you will get better results.

Thanks!

The problem with this trigger is that it's mushy through and through but I'll do more practice with the SKS. I've done a nice trigger job on that one. A bit more force, but it's still light, 2-stage, crisp, clean break.

My new sport shooting and coyote gun arrived! Will be posting up more and better pics after I clean it up and scope it. Range test tomorrow! Can't wait!!!

I don't think any are available to buy and if there are, they'll fly off the shelves lol

OMG I dont know anything about guns, but I hope they ban your gun. It's black and scary. Wasn't the gun in the theatre massacre also black? :p

It's an AK47 weapon of mass destruction!!!! Just last night I opened the safe and saw it try to grow legs so it can walk out and start bustin' caps in suckaz assez but then I snipped them off and chained it to the safe wall!! Hide yo kids hide yo wife!!!

D23: It has a gas reg but the ejection is violent both on 1 and 2.. On 0, it's bolt-action.

So when are you gonna invite me to shoot it?

Hmmm

Guess you just have to live with it. If you're shooting Norc Surp it's not that bad anyway. Not like you really need to reload 5.56.

At least you can shoot it weak side without eating the brass. :)

Lets shoot at your club some time.

I'll teach you some CQB stuff in exchange for the invite.

Sounds great. We'll work something out starting the first week of October. Has to be from behind the firing line as I don't have a holster cert and I doubt I'll be able to get into a course until then. I'll also check if you'd be allowed to shoot from downrange (unless you have a holster cert?). Already put in an inquiry with the club if the nature of your job qualifies you for shooting from downrange.

RG: Definitely, and I have another new toy, so there will be no repeats from the last range trip :)

Thanks bud! It was a blast!
This time I'll clear my schedule so I have time for the clean up :)

You'll see regular cleaning which is a bit shorter as we won't have to worry about corrosive primers with the toys we'll be taking out this time around. Just waiting for the construction to be done in the apt so i have my regular work space.. Don't ask about my current cleaning setup lol

Cool, like to see how everything functions & put together

Just tested the T97 on 100yd range.. Kinda weird due to the height difference b/w the scope and the bore.. Zeroed at 50, shoots 3" low at 20, 5" high at 100.. Looks like there's about 10" of Arkansas windage that has to be applied between REAL cqb and the apex.

Free D23?

Got banned, most likely temp as I didn't see him post anything worthy of a permaban. Probably just an infraction but the mods decided to REALLY crack some heads

Why not just buy 2 rifles? An SKS will cost you $200 and it will shoot 7.62x39. Make sure you can shoot accurately and use softpoint bullets, of course.

Already got one, of course. It's also not my primary 'hunter' (.30-06 browning xbolt hunter), but there as a backup/close-in brush gun.

Sks is all tactifooled out, too, wearing an optic that costs more than the gun. I'd get one of those bullpup kits to play around with if they didn't turn you into a terrorist up here.

A t97 or some sort of falling block is next on the list, after a bigger motorcycle next summer.

I was experimenting with optics on the SKS but ended up just running a peep. Still dressed in Crapco.

I should take her out for a bit of fun, but still working on getting the T97 dialed in. Will run a TRS-25 on her.

What are your thoughts on the Benelli MR-1?

Actually, if the AR-15 wasn't restricted, that is what I would buy. Since it is though, I am considering either the Benelli MR-1 or the Mini 14 Target edition.

The pros for the Benelli, from what I've read is that it takes AR mags and is very reliable.
I know the base model mini 14 is known to not be so accurate unless you do something to control the barrel flex once it gets heated. I wonder if that problem is solved with the heavier barrel on the target model?

I would consider other .223 semi-autos, but I cannot afford a XCR or other high end models, and I don't want Kel-tec or Norinco (sorry, read too many bad things about them to risk $1000+ on one).

So... Benelli MR-1 for ~$1500 to $1600, Mini 14 Target for $1000 to $1100 (if I can find one), or????

Looks cool, kinda like my Beretta CX4
Where do you get one with an 18.5" barrel, or can you only get them in restricted-class?

I've only seen them with the longer non-restricted barrels. Saw one at a small gun shop up by Mount Forest area.

I'm leaning towards the mini 14 target edition though, like this: http://world.guns.ru/userfiles/images/civil/civ013/mini14-t.jpg if I can find one, because I'm looking at a $500 difference between the two -- that difference is more than a case of ammo!

M305 Norinco from Marstar for $429 plus Chinese surplus SKS for an additional $75. Just saying, cheaper than both those options
