What rifle should I buy?

I'm saying the Tavor is an assault rifle. I'm saying the Tavor we can buy is a semi automatic assault rifle. You believe that Websters is useless garbage. Again, an opinion you have that I don't share.Again, again, again, again, and again, thats fine. You call it what you want.

Buy a Swiss Arms, they're on the chopping block at the RCMP.... last chance

Fat chance.. Too many have been imported, no registry data, no reliable way to confiscate them. Even if someone is caught hunting with one, fat chance proving mens rea.

Because RCMP will let "ignorance of the law" be the reason for possesion of a prohib?

I'm pretty sure you can track every original owner down, but l agree that all those people would have to do is say they sold it to a guy who's name escapes them at the moment....

It's the risk of getting caught with it vs. owning something you can never legally fire again.

Sucks for the people that thought they were buying a NR. :(

It's not ignorance of the law issue.. The rifle was non-restricted at the time of purchase. It's not your average firearm owner has FRT access. Ignorance of the law would be more along the lines of "I didn't know I needed a licence to own a gun".

Either you register it as a newly classified prohib and be grandfathered as an owner, or risk being busted later down the road with an unregistered prohibited firearm and face the law.... perhaps the ignorance plea would work. Perhaps not.

With a good lawyer, it would. If some backwoods farmer bought it to bag coyotes, you think he's gonna be checking the FRT daily to see if all of a sudden his Swiss Arms turned from a sporting rifle into an evil, baby-killing assault rifle without his knowledge? What about his 10/22 squirrel gun? What about his 870 bird gun? Is he gonna be looking all of them up every day for the rest of his life on the off-chance that those non-restricted firearms are gonna get reclassified as prohibited all of a sudden? He bought a non-restricted and I really don't see what would be the required "due diligence" needed to ensure that it didn't spontaneously morph into an assault weapon of mass destruction while he was taking his nap.

I hear you, but our laws don't make sense to begin with. At the very least, that backwoods farmer will be out several grand and quite a bit of his own time to fight such a charge. Not to mention the loss of a $3000 rifle.

Depends on what kinda cop he runs into.. He can be out several grand anyway.. For example.. To satisfy the requirements of safe firearm storage, all you need is a sheet metal box (actually even an old fridge will do) as long as it locks and can't be carried away easily (even that might not be a strict legal requirement).. Well, there was a guy who made an uber-secure gun room.. Went on vacation and thieves broke into his house. Took them 2 days of work with power tools to break into his gun room (his neighbors thought he had people doing renovations). He got charged with unsafe storage. What's illegal and what they charge you with can be (and often are) 2 different things. Just ask Ian Thomson.

My new sport shooting and coyote gun arrived! Will be posting up more and better pics after I clean it up and scope it. Range test tomorrow! Can't wait!!!

I don't think any are available to buy and if there are, they'll fly off the shelves lol

So what did the coyotes do to you?

Endanger the livestock of the farmer I'll be helping

I don't like unnecessary kills. I just think they have a right as much as we do.

Finally!

There are 160 in stock at SFRC. Lets see how many are left tomorrow.

I'm tempted. :(

When my Walther G22 went from non-restricted to prohibited there was no grandfathering option, it was hand it over without compensation.

What are your thoughts on quality? Have you handled a tavor and can you compare the two at all?

Also does it have a manual bolt hold-open?

They flew off the shelves at Al Flaherty's.. If you think you could use one, get it. You can always sell it for what you paid if you don't like it. Here's some early 411

Strips without the use of ANY tools (not even bullet tip), I wasn't impressed by the quality but it's not bad either. Pretty simple, should be reliable. Never touched a Tavor. Trigger is a bit mushy (normal for bullpups) but mine tested at barely over 4lbs. No manual hold open, which sucks. Safety's a bit awkward, and you gotta turn the rifle 45 degrees for a mag change, which will take a bit of getting used to but that makes using coupled mags easier. I like the peep (3 apertures). If you scope it, you'll have to chin-weld it and get a shorty with a short eye relief or a red dot. A full-sized scope goes about 4cm back so it's a bit awkward but I will test it at the range tomorrow. I love the way the rifle handles. Can't wait to drill some holes in paper ;)

Almost tempted to get another and run it stock but I spent waaaaaaaaaaay too much cash on guns and gun accessories recently lol
