Two things if they are put outside too early the short photoperiod causes the plant to produce flowering hormones that will cause stretch then they almost pause growth stressing the plants possibly promoting them to hermaphrodite and just wasting time.
The other thing is you have to remember is that we are doing something unnatural by isolating the female plant and not allowing seed set and causing the flower clusters to get far larger and heaver than the would normally get.
If you grow a huge plant they are very susceptible to wind and rain damage even if trellised up. Few things are as disappointing as finding all your hard work in the mud after a late summer storm.
Then there is the potential mold issues..
Done it more than once J.S.
The photoperiod for cannabis is way longer than our frost-free period -- we could plant outside and run on daylight starting the same time as Californians and Mexicans -- around March 20th. The problem is we can't mitigate frost and chill damage until about May 10.
Huge plants are less susceptible to wind damage - the stalks get massive and the taller hemp plants grow, the more resilient they get to wind.
I will agree you need to be mindful of mold. The colas get huge and when it rains they hold a lot of moisture. I do prune a lot once flowering has started, I like a lot of airflow and sun getting to the plants. Luckily mold has never hurt my girls.
That happens - although rarely if you buy from a reputable dealer. I think I've seen 2 or 3 makes out of 100+ feminized seeds.
You can tell before you plant them, the sex is evident at about 10-12" tall. Grow a few extra seedlings and in the rare chance one turns out male or hermie, cull it.
Clones are less work, but you need a reputable dealer to make sure you have good-quality specimens. You'll get just as many males & hermies from clones as you will from feminized seeds - be diligent and sex every plant.
