What kinda boots do you wear?

Mind you, I'm now looking/hoping to find footwear with more protection (read: full boot) that will still allow me off-bike jaunts if necessary (without making me look like a demented Quasimodo in search of bell towers...).

The Dainese Torque Out is a very good boot with very "subtle" looks.

This thread has piqued my interest in that exact model...just watched SBTG's online review, and I'm liking what I see i.e. one won't look like a geek wearing it, and it looks like it'll be okay to walk in for short periods of time.

I've worm my Torques to work (10 hour shift) before and at no point did it get uncomfortable/painful.
I really like them... another bonus is that the zipper is in the back center of the boot, so your foot slides right in.
I have a pair of puma's flat 2 v2 and the zipper is on the side, pita to get your feet in.

Picked up the TCX last year. Been very happy with them.

I saw this boot at Toronto Cycle. He had 2 pairs, one in my size. The boxes had dust on them so thick that I needed a pick axe to get at them. I liked them, tried them on and took them to the counter. Dude looks at me like I'm from Mars. No price tag so he says "make me an offer". I said I like them and I am willing to buy them for what they are worth. Again, he says "make me an offer". So I contemplate. 2 pairs left, tons of dust, the guy is trying to tell me he is willing to give me a deal. So I offer $150. He says no, and tells me he'll keep them. I say, this is the part where you counter. He says, "nah, that's ok."

Ok, so I've read that the guy can be a bit flakey but what the hell was that? Anyway, nice boots, glad you like them?

Thats funny, and by funny i mean wtf?

I can wear my Daytonas all day long and walk around the pits in them no problem. They're also very easy to get in and out of. And they're a perfect fit. Just a well made and well thought out boot. Expensive but worth it.

That's the sort of feedback I like to hear. Really good to know that they're as comfortable as has been hinted at throughout the thread and via most reviews (and agreed on that side zipper thing, it's a bit of a pita to get them on and off, so another bonus in my books).

Try working there. He's way worse then that, and somehow still has a business, it shocks me.

I wear the Sidi B-2. Good enough protection for the road and they are comfortable.

What does "good enough protection for the road" mean?

The road is where you want MOST protection. When you crash you're very likely to injure your ankles.. so even if it's a minor get-off you can be stuck with crutches and not walking properly for a month!

Boots and gloves are one area not to skimp on. I don't know why Sidi and alpinestars aren't better in this department with their entry level boots. It's inexcusable.

Sidi Mega Gore but they don't seem to actually protect the ankle much. I hear the Dianese Torque boots are much better and cheaper.

Most of the time I just end up wearing steel toed boots. Although yesterday I went for a ride and the boots were in my car at the shop. I was still too lazy to get the Sidi's out and just wore my Adidas Campus ST.

Why even bother with steel toe boots? I'd rather wear running shoes might as well be comfortable and cool.

I believe the regular price on those is 350-400 so he was probably 'offended' but that's his fault for being an idiot in the first place. You run a store not an eBay auction don't ask for "offers".

Slightly more protection and ankle support. I buy comfortable steel toe boots. I can wear them all day and be almost as comfortable as if I were wearing running shoes. Usually in the winter I wear them all day at work and then all day after work as well without problems. Use them for my casual winter boots because I think it's a waste to have two pairs of boots. WAY more comfortable that the Sidis and then I don't have to walk around the rest of the day looking like a Power Ranger if I don't feel like bringing a change of shoes with me.

Damn it! Thanks a lot to Rodney (the OP) and to all those folks blabbin' on about the Dainese Torque Outs. Now I'm two hundred bucks lighter and will have to go hungry the rest of the month.

Count your blessings. A lot of us paid a hell of a lot more than that a year or two ago when they were much more expensive.
