What kinda boots do you wear?

Jayell, if you dont mind me asking did you purchase them locally or online? I myself have also been thinking about looking into a set of the dainese torques but want to try them on first.

Damn it! Thanks a lot to Rodney (the OP) and to all those folks blabbin' on about the Dainese Torque Outs. Now I'm two hundred bucks lighter and will have to go hungry the rest of the month.

You got a great deal man, don't feel bad...

Riders Choice carries the torques. GP bikes may have them as well, not sure if they carry Dainese boots or not.

I saw this boot at Toronto Cycle. He had 2 pairs, one in my size. The boxes had dust on them so thick that I needed a pick axe to get at them. I liked them, tried them on and took them to the counter. Dude looks at me like I'm from Mars. No price tag so he says "make me an offer". I said I like them and I am willing to buy them for what they are worth. Again, he says "make me an offer". So I contemplate. 2 pairs left, tons of dust, the guy is trying to tell me he is willing to give me a deal. So I offer $150. He says no, and tells me he'll keep them. I say, this is the part where you counter. He says, "nah, that's ok."

Ok, so I've read that the guy can be a bit flakey but what the hell was that? Anyway, nice boots, glad you like them?

I do like them. They are a bit noisy when you walk but I wanted to make sure the boots I got protected the ankle and toe areas. These are the newer Oxtar design. Other boots mentioned here like the Dainese Torques and the A* SMX plus are also excellent boots. If you could have picked these the TCX for under $300 you would have made a good deal. I paid a little over and it was the best price I could find.

P.S. I also thought this thread was gone. Good to see it's back.

Got 'em from Riders Choice in Mississauga.

Just go to Riders Choice. Anytime I bought Dainese stuff, he matched or most times beat US pricing.

This way you build a great relationship, dont have to worry about shipping, returns, customs, taxes. And if you have any warranty issues, they will look after you.

John went the extra mile for me when I purchased my 1pc suit last winter and made sure I was perfectly happy. Then recently, when I needed my 1pc repaired, he went above and beyond. Sorry, but you just won't get this type of service shopping on line with a US shop.

.

I've always liked the TCX boots, and apart from Dainese and Daytonas, are the only other brand I would have bought, but couldnt find any shops that carried the line here. Too bad.

They have a new air PUMP version. Sort of like the old Reebok pump shoes.

I saw the pump design recently and think it is a nice idea that more boots should incorporate. Custom fits to anyone's foot.

I have top of the line reebok hockey skates and hardly use the pump feature. Doesnt make as much difference as I thought it would.

I prefer to purchase things from a store rather than online, and now that you've said that I am definitely going to hit up riders choice, hopefully next week (reading week...) and see what they have.

Sidi Mega Gore but they don't seem to actually protect the ankle much. I hear the Dianese Torque boots are much better and cheaper.

Most of the time I just end up wearing steel toed boots. Although yesterday I went for a ride and the boots were in my car at the shop. I was still too lazy to get the Sidi's out and just wore my Adidas Campus ST.

Steel toe boots (work boots) will cut your toe(s) off when significant impact and bending of the toes occurs. It is generally preferred to break your toes than to amputate them! So steel toe boots are generally not recommended. But then they are your toes (as long as they are attached).

Nonsense. The "significant impact" it takes to crush the steel shell would completely mangle your foot anyways so the argument is completely stupid. Furthermore, the steel shell is likely to deflect a direct blow rather than absorb all the energy, thanks to it's shape.

It is not the impact. It is the bending upwards! It has happened to a few people.

At work I suggest it is a downard impact that the toe cap protects a person's toes from which is good, or some sort of direct impact but less forecfull than a 100 KM + impact and upward bending of the toes that can occur on a motorcycle. Cycle World or some similar mag had an article on this a number of years ago, as memory serves me. Probably before most riders here where riding yet!

I used to wear steel-toe work boots back in the day when off road dirt biking and they saving me more than once. I remember one time I was flat out, top speed and my left foot hooked into a railroad tie. I busted up one toe, but if I wasn't wearing the steel-toe boots I probably would have taken the top of the foot off.

It makes perfect sense. The dynamics are completely different between workplace risks and motorcycling risks to the foot. There isn't much chance for example of your boot being ripped clean off your foot at work, for example. More relevant to this argument, there isn't much chance of your toes being crushed from below in a workplace incident. On a bike, sure.

Or are Dianese being negligent by failing to put steel toes in their motorcycle boots?

Uh, I never once suggested wearing steel toe boots for riding. It's completely pointless. In fact, I think I said it in this thread already... you might as well wear running shoes.
