What did you do in your garage today..?

This is my go-to for stuck oil filters. I’ve had it for ages:


I don’t really understand the bad reviews, but it sounds like many of them are trying to use it to install a filter when it’s really only supposed to used to remove them - it is somewhat destructive since it crushes the filter between the jaws as it removes. Sometimes I also have to use a hand on the tool to size it down to the filter to get it to start gripping, but never had a problem after that. I consider this to be one of my most valued maintenance tools, even though it’s not actually valuable.
I was going to post one like that never had an issue getting a stuck one off.

Moved the bike into my garage (aka storage container), filled it up with gas and stabilizer, and crossed my fingers that maybe that was all premature.

Before doing that, practiced picking the bike up as I hadn't been able to do so myself in the past. Was able to do so now without too much drama using the back-to-bike technique; deadlift-style from the handlebars seemed impossible though - going to work on more deadlifts at the gym. My bike really doesn't like lying on its side though - there's pretty much no way to lie it down even gently, without the ground absolutely destroying the hand guards. My right hand guard was basically trashed from a prior drop and I had the replacement parts in hand, so I decided today was the perfect day to practice. Barkbusters have been ordered but they're not due to arrive at the dealer until February.

Finally, I installed a powered anode in our cottage water heater. For the last several years our hot water has smelled heavily of rotten eggs/sulfur, even after replacing with a stainless steel tank. Cold water has always smelled fine. There are claims that a powered anode will eliminate the smell within 24-h; after draining some water from the tank and then installing, it sure seemed like things were a bit better within an hour or so. I'll know for sure next week. If it works I'll be thrilled; the smell was enough to make longer stays significantly less appealing to the rest of the family.

Biggest problem was finding sockets large enough to install the new anode - 31mm seems to be an oddball size, not stocked at CT/HD/PA. 1-3/16" was available at CT; really didn't want to go that way but fortunately it was fine.
 
I topped up my bike with premium fuel and stabilizer before parking it on Saturday. 12 degrees forecast today. I think I'm gonna burn some of that stabilized fuel. Nuggy, where is your cottage? Sulphur is a big problem around here. Installing a softener helps to alleviate it.

@85K100 We're about 5 mins south of Washago - pretty much halfway between Orillia and Gravenhurst.

We have a softener, but I have read that can exacerbate some of the problems : "Water softeners can be a source of the rotten egg odor when sulfur and iron bacteria start growing in them. So, you should test if your water softener is contaminated by disconnecting your faucet from the water softener and seeing if the smell is still there" . I dam not sure that's our problem as our cold water smells perfectly fine.

Nothing I had tried before has worked so far: neither replacing the anode, replacing the tank, flushing the tank, shocking it with hydrogen peroxide or chlorine bleach, etc. Smell might go away for a bit, but always came back.

This is what I bought: Corro-Protec powered anode. I'll check in next week to see if it works - if you're interested, feel free to ping me a reminder.
 
Searched for $200 worth of braided lines I had made up and were too short once I got the proper bars. I would like to use them on my latest project but cannot for the life of me figure out where the eff I stored them.....

From what I know that smell happens whenever the water sits in the water heater for too long if it's always used doesn't often happen

This is super easy to solve just order another set once you get them installed the old ones will show up magically

You're not wrong. For the life of me I couldn't find my Windows TuneECU cable & CD earlier this year. The CD wasn't critical as I already had the program on my laptop, but the cable I needed to connect to my Triumph.

So I ordered another one ... about a week or 2 later I found the first one so I now have 2. :confused:
 
Welp my luck keeps getting worse. I don't think the old oil filter is supposed to come out with that thing in the middle.

What in the in the world did the previous place that did the oil change did to my bike? :(((

I will put again the old oil filter until I can figure out how to remove that part. I think I need a 23mm socket which I don't currently own.

That's easy enough to fix now. Vise for the filter and a wrench on the flats (or six point socket but it looks thin so ramp on socket may burn you).
 
Helped my kid swap his tires.
Didn't take long, he pulled his car in the garage, and a small heater got the temperature up to 14.
Going to try and do mine tomorrow if I can get him up early enough.
Not sure if I'll try and fit the minivan in the garage, for the swap.
It doesn't give a lot of space to jump back, if there's an issue, but the driveway is sloped.

At times I have pulled just one end of the vehicle in the garage. Lets you work out of the wind/rain, on a flat surface and have room to move. When one end is done, spin the vehicle around and do the other end. I'm not lifting high enough that a 7' door impeded me.
 
FWIW, I haven't had any Barrinas die on me yet. I have something like 16 installed various places. All of Gary's died though. Costco lights are $8/1000 lumens, Barrinas are $4/1000 lumens. Barrinas are also available in different lengths if that matters. I have only used the 4' 5000 Lumen 5000K ones.

I have 6 X 8ft of these lights.
Installed probably 2 years ago.
Just noticed recently that a bunch of the individual LEDs on each one have died, probably 20-50 on each. Some are flickering, some just dead.
But have not had any units fail as a whole. I'm sure that will come soon enough.

I really don't like the buzzing, cricket sound they produce when I'm in the by myself enjoying a cold one.
 
Installed the mini skirt on the trailer.

Wondering if I should get a full length gown for it instead.
I'd skip the tarp and just spray it down with a can of WD40, Crown, or the best IMO is RustProof 3000 (TSC or CT stores).
Changed tires on both vehicles and cleaned and greased the 890 ADV r for the new owner.Tommorow im going to GP to find a new bike,they have smoking rebates on 24s right now.
Give Peak performance a shot as well (Gary in Oakville is my go-to now). Honestly after buying 3 bikes at GP and seeing customer service go down hill you'll find Peak a breath of fresh air (they were also $3k cheaper than GP for my 23 1290R btw).
