What did you do in your garage today..?

Nice. Take care of it. It took my buddy almost 20 years to find and buy a decent four into four exhaust for his CBK.

New Shinko 705s, front and rear for the Guzzi, the same as before. The last rear went 12,400, the front 25,000km. Pretty happy with that.

I've previously sealed the rims, so no annoying tubes to deal with.

Everytime I do tires, I swear it will be the last. But I'm always quite pleased once the task is done. Looking forward to the next job!

By the way, GP Bikes is still the least expensive shop for tires, and that includes delivery to my door.

For those unsure how to correctly set up the front end, this is all you need, though I tighten down the calipers as the final step:

This was also a good opportunity to lube the bearings on the rear shock and grease the splines on the final drive.

I'm very thankful I have the means, the tools, and the skills (though this might be questionable) to do this work. If I had to pay a shop to service my bikes, I couldn't afford to ride!

Those Shinkos look good. How are they on gravel? My 50/50 Anakee Wilds are wearing fast, and I'm not too happy with their on-road performance. Looking to get a 70/30 or 80/20 and the 705s are on the shortlist.

Cheaper than petes?

I'm no expert, you might find more informed advice elsewhere. They're black and round. I ride plenty of gravel, though nothing too gnarly, always sure footed. Happy with the on road manners, smooth and quiet, but I'm not Rossi.

And the price is always right! Give 'em a try.

Installed a rear mudguard/license plate relocation kit on the Hyper. Carbon fibre too! :D

Had to relocate the turn-signals from the big old shovel behind the tail as well, so I also installed these units that fit underneath the tail light. The left signal is a little close to the pipe, but I've run it most of the day and it hasn't melted yet...?

These two mods really cleans up the rear, and gives the tail a shorter, streetfighter look. Me gusta!!

Car left me stranded in a parking lot today. I had to walk home and get CAA to haul it here. All signs point to a bad starter motor. I'll be "WFH" tomorrow.

Makes you miss the good old days when cars had hand crank starters. That reminds me, my MDX starter is squealing and I need to disassemble and grease it. Yet another well known problem with this Acura.

Maybe for Shinko's, but I wanted a set of Dunlop Roadsmart IV's because of the rebate, and they wouldn't match Pete's price even with shipping. I think I saved somewhere between $50-$75 going with Pete's. The reason I wanted to go with GP was because there was some confusion with the Dunlop rebate site - Pete's is listed as both online and in-store, and if you select online, the purchase is ineligible. The first time I called Pete's to confirm, the person that answered said he didn't know how the rebates worked and suggested I call Dunlop. After a week of trying to get in touch with Dunlop (the phone number on their web site was out of service, and when I finally found the right one, the factory was apparently shut down for the week), I called Pete's again and another guy knew exactly what I was talking about and said all of their customers who submitted as in-store got their rebate approved.

Ever since we started watching the Dakar Rally again, my wife and I are obsessed with Rally Raids. We did some dune riding over the wintertime and now we've entered our first Rally Raid. It's only two days, but it should be a good introduction to the sport.

These days, the roadbooks are all digital and the scrolling is done remotely via Bluetooth-connected buttons on the handlebar:

However, I decided to go old school and instead of using an app on a smartphone mounted on the bars, like most people are doing, I bought a paper-based roadbook holder. I wanted to experience what the original racers did during the rally.

I printed out the roadbook and cut them into strips. Then scotch-taped them all into a roll:

Stuffed it into the holder:

Too many accessories on the left side of the handlebar, so I had to mount it on the right. It's not optimal, but now we're ready for this weekend's race!

Wish us luck!

I had a 1982 Niva Cossack 4x4 that had a hand crank. Sadly before I ever tried it I mounted a winch on the bumper and skewed the bumper just enough using it that the crank would no longer line up to pass thru the bumper and the hole in the rad before mating with the crank.

Almost looks like an MV Agusta now. :)

Great news!

I've received The Guzzi Golden Wrench Award! Yes! Given to those who perform their own service. Highly coveted, it's a badge to be displayed with great pride!

Wishful thinking, isn't it? Actually, it is an annoying service reminder, which can only be reset by a dealer using the proprietary Piaggio interface. Even if one can crack the ECU, the service reminder cannot be reset. It's been on for the last 20,000km. I just ignore it now.

So my license plate came loose last night. Thought it would be an easy fix. Nope. The screw is gone. The second one was loose and on it's way out. HD being HD these are some machine type screws, allen heads. Hopefully home depot has something I can use to fix this otherwise riding plans might be out the window for tomorrow.

Couple of zip ties?

Couple of zip ties?

License plates cut through zip ties pretty quickly - ask me how I know. But for a day, it might be fine.

I was leaving for a trip and needed a quick fix for my trailer's plate, so I grabbed a couple of key rings and "hung" the plate. Never got around to replacing them with screws because they've held up fine so far after many years.

The plate bracket is part of the tail light assembly. Sorta like this. I could just remove the plate bracket all together and put the plate itself tied to my saddle guards. I did that before, it worked well.

Fiddling with a very stuck stator cover plug on the TL1000S, I noticed the top of the stator cover was wet with something... one of the rad hoses is about to let go at the engine side. Grounded until I can get another one, but glad I didn't discover this by getting sprayed with hot coolant... or engine bits
