Spent the day in the garage installing misc parts that have been piling up in the corner of the garage.
Got these shortie clutch and brake levers from a company in South Africa called Wild@Heart.
Got a set for the wife's Norden:
However, it reduces the leverage at the lever and since it's a cable clutch, it now requires a great deal of effort to pull the new lever in, so I got her a 1FC (One Finger Clutch) kit from Camel ADV. It increases the leverage again by lengthening the pull at the clutch actuator arm.
This is the difference between the stock actuator arm and the new one installed. There are three holes in the arm where you can mount the clevis for different leverages, the closest hole has basically the same throw as the stock arm.
Crappy pic. The friction zone is widened as well, which allows for some fine slow-speed modulation in the dirt. Only disadvantage is that the clutch needs to be pulled in a bit more when shifting manually, but that's why we have Quick Shifters!
Got the same Wild@Heart levers for the DesertX:
They're well made and very ergonomic. The up-turn at the end keeps your hand from slipping off. The DDX has a hydraulic clutch, so no need for a 1FC kit.
Got the Ducati Performance crash bar kit installed. I opted for the front engine guard and the water pump guard. Lots of bits on the DesertX that stick out that need protecting - especially since I take a lot of dirt naps on the bike...
Stock carbon fibre skid plate on the Rally is sooooo bling!
The ABS wires and sensors are very exposed, so I think I'll order some protectors for those as well.
Installed the newest version of the Double Take foldable mirrors:
They've moved away from RAM mounts and balls since the RAM balls deform too easily and leave détentes in the rubber. The new balls are plastic and resist deformation, and the arms are made by Double Take and not RAM anymore.
And an AliExpress kickstand enlarger. Needed to pad the inside with some rubber matting because the kickstand base was too thin. I don't think they actually measured the fit with an actual DesertX, it's probably a universal enlarger.
I normally wear bulky MX boots when I ride in the dirt and I find that I have problems hooking my toe under the shifter on my GS. This is a neat feature on the Rally's shifter:
Just one bolt at the bottom allows you to raise the shifter height. Neat!
I'm still waiting on Barkbusters, the DDX-specific mounts are backordered. I also have the Zumo XT GPS locking mount from Touratech that I'm going to put on next time.
