What did you do in your garage today..?

I'm starting to bolt parts to the new track/race bike as they trickle in. The full Hindle exhaust system saves 11 pounds over the stock exhaust and passenger peg brackets. I even dug out the torque wrench for the header bolts, since my first experience with a broken bolt (and broken extractor in the broken bolt 🤬) was 20 years ago on a previous-gen Ninja 500.

I'm not loving the Ninja 500's footpeg arrangement. The rearsets are cantilevered 7 or 8 inches from the attachment point and look really spindly and vulnerable in a crash. In comparison, the Ninja 300's rearsets are only cantilevered 3 or 4 inches from the attachment point. On the plus side, the Ninja 500's attachment point is a separate piece of steel that could be easily replaced or bent back into shape. The Ninja 300's attachment points are tapped directly into the frame. There's no weight savings on the Chinese rearsets that I picked over the stock ones, but they're cheap and adjustable.

It looks like I have to pull the entire tank off and all of its connections in order to swap the air filter, so that's a job for another night. The Ninja 300's filter is much more accessible by removing a single panel under the seat.

Put up some racking in the basement at the cottage. Busy Bee Tools has these online for $48, or in store for $33. I got 2 packs in store at their Mississauga location.

Great value IMO. I'm using them to store lumber and other things, each level can hold 110 lb. They have a 3 shelf one for $20 in store. You could cut strips of 12" wide 3/4 plywood to make shelves.

Rain today so finally got around to the bike.

1. Removed the parasitic drain USB port installed by previous owner
2. Wired up connector for battery tender instead of having connect to battery
3. Move some things around on the handlebar and glad to see mechanic didn’t drill holes into the bar.

Will try and enlarge the bolt hole on the windshield this weekend, and also install the Barkbusters. Will probably have to move some things a bit just to fit them.

One thing I didn’t consider with the swap…the limited amount of real estate on the handlebar.

When I installed all of my accessories, including multiple USB chargers (1 handlebar, 1 front cubby, 2 in the top box) I put them all on a relay so that when the bike is off, the power (and parasitic draw) is off.

I put 1 cigarette ligther plug in one of the front cubbies that stays on all the time just for the rare occasion where I need that for charging intercoms while stopped for lunch or whatever.

What where? No snow in Toronto, makes it feel like no snow anywhere, but it will be like +8 tomorrow.
I think all the ski hills are open north of GTA. Mostly manmade snow but it's there. We had almost a foot of natural snow. Rain has brought grass back in some spots.

On topic, Friday I remounted bindings for the kids skis as they both moved up a size this year. I can't set bindings until I figure out which boots fit each year. Then scraped down and brushed four sets of skis so they were ready to go. I leave them with storage wax on them to protect them in the summer.

Haven't they got something like 4-6 feet of snow in the snowbelt areas to the north after the 2 poundings?

I'm not a ski person and really have no clue, but are there not any ski hills up that way? Collingwood at least?

Gravenhurst got hammered a few times. Collingwood got some decent snow but not hammered. A ton of Ontario hills spent over 1M each this summer to upgrade snowmaking after last years rain disaster. Some had to close again as they lost their snow. Most used to stop making snow by the end of January but recently some have been making snow in March to try to save march break.

Took the hard case and seat off. Unplugged the fuel pump and ran the carbs dry. Drained oil and remover filter. Go get the new filter. Oy empty box, sheesh. Get in car go to Cdn tire pick up filter. Put in new oil and run the starter a few times to circulate and check level. Trickle charger on. I guess that’s it until spring. Almost 5,000 miles 8,000 km this season. Way more than I thought, and most since Covid hit.

GP Bikes finally delivered my Scrambler on Saturday ... I put a battery tender on it and covered it up. If we get a warm spell at any time I'll put the exhaust can on it ... still to do afterwards would be install the lower handlebars off the Full Throttle model and the new Koso heated grips as well as USB charging spots.

Mine is an 83 GL1100. I assume the 1200s would be as easy. (I should know as I owned one but over 6 years all I really did was add gas and ride it)

The clutch has been disengaging at the last 1/4" of travel, not slipping by any means, but makes low speed maneuvering difficult.
I usually flush out every couple of years. I decided to take the clutch slave cylinder off. Wow, I didn't expect this.IMG_5050.jpegIMG_5049.jpeg
