What did you do in your garage today..?

Great success. First oil change on the Volt (by me).

No spills…

But I will be buying these flexible oil pans.

EDIT: Just wish those damn ramps were higher up. Would make it so much easier.

In the groove now. Tire swap time.

I got one of these from Crappy Tire. Works well. Plus you can save up your oil and then pour it back into the original container when it's empty:

Last minute wrenching before we leave on our moto-trip tomorrow, oil change, did the oversize tank last week.

Put in these levers from Midwest Mountain Engineering:

They're supposed to reduce clutch pull effort by 50% due by shortening the pivot-to-pivot distance.

It works really well! I don't know if it's 50% less effort, but it certainly feels *A LOT* lighter. And it's super-short as well. Can only get two fingers on the lever, which is all I really need. Most shorty levers (Pazzo, etc) I can get three fingers on them. The reduced effort means I can also clutch in with one finger, which is nice.

Also got the matching brake lever for similar feel on both sides.

Last season, I got caught out in the BC wilderness after dark and the stock headlights on the enduro sucked balls. I was basically riding blind. So I ordered some LED headlights from Baja Designs. Got the Baja Designs XL80

Unplugged the stocker, did a headlight-ectomy:

Voila!

SO BRIGHT! 9500 lumens. I can basically nuke small animals when they run out on the road in front of me.

I'll have to level the headlights tonight outside when it's dark. The headlights are only on/off, there's no DRL/high beams. I can purchase a manual switch from Baja Designs that reduces the LEDs to 20% brightness to simulate DRLs, but I'll have to do that when we get back. Very happy with these lights.

Lights Off.

Need to look into it, as right now I don’t have an empty container for the old oil. There’s still 1L left in the container of fresh oil.

I keep a spare empty oil jug for that. You can also use a windshield washer jug, but I don't trust them for long term storage, only for the trip to the recycling center. And never fill them hot.

I just save some empty orange juice or iced tea bottles when I know I am close to getting my oil done. Of course you will need a few.
Fabric softener/detergent bottles are also good.

You can also take the full container to your local garage or Cdn Tire and they empty it into their large oil recycling drum.

All the garages and Cdn Tires in Brampton (that I am aware of) have stopped doing that. Too many people dumping contaminants in with the used oil.

Officially, their Go Eco program is now officially only available in Quebec. The last time I dropped off a bunch of used oil jugs there, they told me to take them back. Peel Region residents can drop off just about anything at the Community Recycling Centers.

Manufacturer wants a stamp in the book, every time the bike is serviced. Some places have a discount oil change & inspection, but charge time & materials for a scheduled service which might amount to the same thing. Do you just have to keep receipts if you do it yourself or is it best to wait until the warranty expires?

Keep receipts for your oil/filter. Should add up to the time/mileage if you ever have a warranty claim. They can't deny a claim because you do your own oil changes if you can back up that it was done.
First oil change at the dealer for my wife's new Odyssey they filled the suspension/frame with oil when dropping the filter which then coated the bottom and my garage floor when home. Done every one myself from then on.

My solution: Get two pieces of 2X8 or 2X10 lumber, each about 2 ft. longer than your ramps. On one end cut an angle for your approach. On top of the other end, nail a 2X4 cross ways, to prevent your wheels from pushing the ramp off the end. Set your ramps on top.
