What constitutes a full stop?

Driver's training taught a full stop as pausing for two seconds, and that is what I was also told was the requirement when I took my drivers tests back in the day.

If I come to a complete stop but don't drop my leg, is it still a complete stop at a stop sign?

Pretty sure a full stop for bikes is foot down.
+1 to the pause for 2-3sec rule.

Hey, I had this question in my mind too. Do you come to a full stop and put your foot down and change to first gear? I've found myself slowing to a crawl in second gear and then taking off.

I do this for both STOP and STOP-ALL WAY signs. I figure that if they really mean it then they would say STOP-ALL-WAY-SERIOUSLY.

When I come to a known intersection which isn't too busy, I bring my bike to a complete stop, then accelerate before the need to put my foot down.

I hope that will hold up in court should the need arise.

Down to first just before a stop & then foot down.

Rolling stops is a big problem and dangerous as hell. In certain areas of Hamilton it is epidemic, especially in residential surveys and its usually punk kids in mums car doing it ( and likely as they yak on cell phones).

I was coming into my survey last Sunday and had right of way. I'm turning left with no stop for me, he's on my left going straight in the rice rocket. I turn thinking he's got the stop but he rolls on through missing my *** end by 6 inches. Never stopped..too busy texting his buds. I felt like chasing him down and feeding him the phone via his *** end. Common sense took over.

A stop sign means stop not yield or stop if you want to. Foot down and brake on for 3 seconds. Lets get back to basics people.

come to a stop sign, both hands on brakes, head moving left and right, clear than go

no foot down

would I get a ticket for this?

The way I see it, as long as your tires stop completely moving, and the way is clear, you can proceed; foot up or down. Your foot is just for balance, if you don't need it, then don't put it down. You don't see guys on trikes lowering their foot do ya?

the cop that pulled me over a couple of years back said that i had to put boh feet down, i ended up fighting the ticket and getting it tossed.

Has anyone ever experienced a B.S. from doing a rolling stop? I'm sure theres the cops out there that will bring out the radar and charge you if your going .5 km through a sign but I haven't experienced that yet. I rolled through a sign with an officer on the other side and thought "OH $#(" but he just waved me through). It was a four way and I did a "safe rolling stop" ,,,,I guess he was out looking for idiots flying through at 20+ km?

i push with my foot until i roll backwards. seriously. then i know i've had zero velocity at some point.

maybe not .. but zero velocity twice, and negative (relative to the stop sign) for at least a little bit. total time .. probably around 2-3 seconds given the weight/momentum of the bike ..
