Having TV fairly high is not that bad. Similar to my setup:

When you sit back on a couch it actually feels pretty natural.

Last year I decided to get better sounding gear, one piece at a time. I picked up a pair of KRK VXT 6's as my booth monitor's which provide really full, crisp sound. I also recently grabbed a pair of the Sennheiser (HD 25-1 II's) for my headphones and a few weeks ago picked up a Rane Empath mixer which is now discontinued.

All together they provide the sound quality I should have had in my booth all along.

Next on the list is a 3-band isolator - there is a guy who makes these really nice sounding ones from Sweden: http://www.bozure.com/T0.aspx?PID=5

For many years I had 4x 500w subs in my living room. It was overkill, but great for house parties.

if you look up at my previous post you will see the tube amps beside the stereo rack. VTL 300 watt monoblock tube amps play into the stator panels and a Bryston 4bst plays the woofer. Below the turntable is a Hovland pre amp with phono section and below is the cd transport/da converter and below is the electronic Bryston crossover.
